    Default Vast and regional ABC/SBS

Just for the curiosity angle as here in the West we're years away from getting the service (like normal).

Asking those that have it,can you still watch interstate broadcasts of the ABC and SBS like I do now on the Aurora service. For example with the time difference it's a handy option to have to be able to watch something like 4 corners at 5.30pm or 6.30pm WA local time via an interstate transmission.
    Thanks.....

Stick up another dish and point it to Optus D1. You'll find all the ABC's and SBS's from all time zones FTA. (Yes I know I'm not answerng your question)

I am in North West Queensland and bought one of the VAST boxes last month. Never had any sort of satellite reception before. Was on holidays at the coast in September and had access to all channels. I decided that I wanted the same access when I got home so I ordered and installed my own satellite dish with a VAST box.

At the moment I can receive all the ABC and SBS transmissions for the different states. For the first couple of weeks last month I could only receive Victorian transmissions. Now everything for ABC and SBS is coming through.

I'm waiting for 15 December to come around so I can apply to register the decoder to receive all commercial channels. For me it's now less than a month to go. It's a pity that WA may be another 3 years away.

Thanks jsat. Those channels would be a dream to have.

Was holding off with getting a vast box, as was hoping another manufacturer would be on board now. But nothing has been mentioned. About to give up waiting, bite the bullet and go get one.

How was the registration process for you?
How long from when you submitted your address, box and card details, to when your channels above were activated?
Also, you mentioned the above channels, are they from your state and region, or do they consist of other states as well (not including ABC's & SBS's).

"Pocket Rocket" Sorry about hijacking your threat.

I've also heard the rumour Strong and Healing are applying for VAST accredditation/compliance.

It would be nice if both, or even one of them was successful as either one would be a better box than the current crap that UEC is offering.

I would expect both to offer PVR capability as they do with their STB ranges.

We can only hope others come on board, the sooner the better.

One would think they will be bombarded with registrations around 15th Dec for VAST, with most anticipating getting authorised before holidays and festive season kicks in.
It's probably wishful thinking a newcomer will be here by then.

Most of us know about the strong brand, but I haven't heard much about the Healing brand.

At this early stage, it might be prudent to just get one only of whatever brand VAST STB is available now to get set up and wait awhile to see whatever else comes on the market for those who have a need for additional STB's in the home.
Its always possible the manufacturers are waiting to see how the market developes before joining in with a product.

I sent an email to strong asking if they were considering one, and the reply was that they would be looking at one after the exclusivity of the uec one, expired in March 2011.

Once MONEY rears its head and a retailer can see a profit, many things may change including the current Card/STB pairing nonsense.
