It has also appeared to have solved a problem I posted about a few months ago in regards to web browsing on this netbook. IE and FF have been mostly unusable with only Opera working ok.
Since removing Kaspersky completely, those 2 browsers have come good.

Interestingly I had the same issue with Bullguard which was installed by default when I got it. It seems these netbooks just arent up to running anything too hard

Now you can go back to using good old IE

Look I think Kaspersky is a good package but like alot of the anti-malware companies these days they seem to be over designing the product. Too much eye candy and too many features making the end product over complicated.

MSE on the other hand is very basic in layout and features and thats how I like it.

I spoke to soon. It wont run IE properly.

I dont think its too much of a matter of eye candy on programs as Kasperky runs fine on a very basic Celeron laptop without problems, its more that you cant put Windows 7 on netbooks and expect them to run as they should. As it is, the onboard graphics is only bare minimum requirement.

I was looking more at the idea of the more complicated the software gets the bigger the footprint it will need to run correctly.

No argument there mate Its just these netbooks running Windows 7 are doing so with barely the hardware to do so. After trying all browsers again, I would call FF a slight improvement , Opera is as good as it was.

Panda has a dedicated antivirus for netbooks. Haven't tried it because i haven't got a netbook, check it out.

Panda does make some good products I think I put a thread up about the free internet based antivirus package.

But I don't think you can beat MSE, because it's free.

I have been running this for a week and a bit now, I have gor AVAST sitting in limbo (disabled), it has blocked a few sites, picked up on a few things and appears to be working.

    What do others think?

I want to remove AVAST permamently but would like to know your thoughts so far on MSE.

Running fine on my netbook here. But I am not a dangerous web surfer I am not in to P2P, Limewire and other virus filled rubbish and dont visit dubious websites. Gmail filters all my pop3 mail.

Been using it since it came out, as all the family laptops etc. ran out of Kapersky I have put them all onto MSE, even with the nephews visiting all sorts of dubious hacking and gaming sites, no issues.

For a while I also regularly used online scanners just to double check, not trusting Microsoft, but don't really worry anymore as MSE seems up to the job.

I DO still use Malwarebytes though...
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy...

Am using and have used both products some of my kids pc's are on Avast and some on MSE, I really can't fault either one, so it really boils down to which one you prefer. Both free and both are quite adequate for the average user.

When Microsoft Security Essentials 2 is released.

Sounds like Microsoft will be added new mechanisms to help thwart Windows 7 activation-bypass hacks. If users running the new MSE on their Windows 7 machines cannot pass Genuine validation and do not resolve the issue, after 30 days, MSE will be disabled and I'm guessing Windows as well.

This might be a problem for people running dodgy versions of windows.

Most dodgy Windows 7 already pass genuine validation ( Windows 7 Loader ) so I am not sure it will make as big a difference as what Microsoft may hope.
But I'm not surprised to hear they'll try it

You right but I suppose even if it does stop current loaders/patches the programmers of these loaders/patches will have fixes in a very short time.

New Microsoft Security Essentials is avaiable looks like its the final version. Version 2.0.657.0 Stable release

    New Features in 2.0
Here’s all of the new features in the latest release, which make it even more of a must-download:

•Network Traffic Inspection integrates into the network system and monitors the traffic at a low level without slowing down your PC, so it can actually detect threats before they get to your PC.

•Internet Explorer Integration blocks malicious scripts before IE even starts running them—clearly a big security advantage.

•Heuristic Scanning Engine finds malware that hasn’t been previously detected by scanning for certain types of attacks. This provides even more protection than just through virus definitions.

•Also an option to limit CPU usage during scaning which will come in handy for slower computers.

Hey just wondering if anyone else is running the new version of MSE and what do you think of it compared to version 1. Does it have more or less impact on your systems.

    Hi Aboulaly,

I'm not sure if they have implemented any of the new anti piracy tech or if they have it doesn't seem to make any difference. I've got it running currently on the laptop with XP pro sp3 and also have it running on 2 desktops running win 7 one with 32bit and the other 64bit both with loaders running.

I would doubt they would target older operating systems but who knows. I guess if your XP is getting updates and hasn't got any dodgy WGA patches in it you should be ok.

My XP is running a key I found on youtube.

Microsoft Security Essential is such a great tool, which provide a powerful security....
I've used this and found it awesome against viruses and malware...
The result are pretty well as compared with any heavy Antivirus tool..
