What is the best anti virus software to get?
I am getting a new Dell laptop. I am spending about $1,400 on it and want to make sure it last and remains fast. I want to get a good anti virus software for it but don't want it to slow my computer down, but I do want it to fully protect my laptop from viruses and hackers. I am willing to pay money for it so whatever the best anti virus there is is what I want. I will have windows 7 professional on it as well.

Alot of Austech users use Kaspersky so that might be the Product to look at. You'll find alot of information in the section under "Security and Privacy"

You could also try using bit torrent and get it for free.

madinjeck, I'll move your thread to " Security and Privacy " as Mick suggested.

Do you want a stand alone AV product, or a full security suite including firewall etc ? I use ( and would recommend after using it for a few years ) Kaspersky Internet Security.
I am using it as I type on a little Intel Atom powered netbook running Windows 7 Ultimate and it doesnt slow the computer down.

I use and recommend Spyware Doctor, however I can't compare it with Kapersky which I have never used, and I would have to say that McAfee and PCcillin are probably just as effective. I have found that Spyware Doctor uncovers viruses that Norton and AVG miss.

AVG has been great with me and its free
doesn't utilise too many resources like norton and trend micro etc.

yeah i used to use Nod32 but im not sure if its free however both are great

might be worth a read.
then check the stats out for each AV.

I'm pimping Avira Antivir (seems to detect the most) at the mo' was a big NOD32 fan, they all seem to fall within a few percentage of each other
