    Yes, that's correct.

Only UEC know for sure, but from what I'm told, it could be in the next few months.

Good place to have a USB slot where its nicely inconvenient to use unless you run an extension.
I bet UEC spent almost milliseconds in designing the location of the USB port to be 'User Friendly'

I don't see an issue with it where it is.

You'll need to have a cable plugged into it regardless, for an external HDD.

Personally I reckon you are better of using an extension cable than plugging a usb flash drive directly in the slot and that way if you tilt the box the wrong way you will not break off the flash drive.

My understanding of the proposed PVR facility, is that it may not work with many USB flash drives, but intended for externally-powered hard drives, as there isn't sufficient power available from the STB power supply to power external drives.

That being the case, the external HDD will require a cable to connect anyhow.

UEC will be able to confirm this when the function becomes available.

Not that I'm aware of ATM, but I'd say there's a fair chance.

What for exactly? They're being turds about letting us use other boxes, so I doubt they'll let us transfer recordings and watch them elsewhere.

    Default Activation key #

Does anyone know where the activation key number is in the DSD4121 menu system. I need the activation key # but can't see anything that actually says that in the menu system.

Not sure what you mean by the activation key number.

To register the decoder, all you need is the decoder and smartcard serial numbers.

Smacca, do you think they will only allow what you record on the attatched storage devise, ie a Memory Stick or HDD, that you can only play it back through the STB, the same as both the Mystar and IQ STB's?

Pain in Proverbial if they do that.

And if they made the RJ45 port available for 'Updates', you'd have to plug it into the phone line and 'Ring Home' to get them ??
Not very convenient if you dont have a landline or your not in a mobile service area.
Why I made the comment regarding the placement of the USB port was that at one time, I was told fly leads we'rnt always suitable for USB and I have a portable HDD that has a USB plug one end and a propriatory plug on the other so I would either have use this all the time or unplug it to use another devise.
I didnt think of the Length of the stick protruding out the front if the port was there, something you would need to be carefull doing.

From what I understand, the recording method will indeed restrict use to playback on the VAST box.

But if you can record off the HDMI/composite outputs anyway , that would rather negate this feature wouldnt it?

Again, he we come down the the question of why is VAST so restricted and Terrestial isnt??

HDMI and component are copy-protected, but you can record from composite... if you're happy with composite quality.

If the picture doesnt jump, tear, pixal, lose colour then I can watch it.
I dont care if its HDMI, Composite, component or sprayed on the screen with a vacuum powered spray gun after what I have had to put up with.
