Default ONVIF Extends to Video Storage and Video Analytics

The new specification covers configuration of dedicated video analytics units, configuration and operation of IP-connected screens and monitor walls, as well as the configuration, storage and playback of video recordings in a security system. The ONVIF service architecture now supports recording features ranging from local recording in cameras over digital video recorders up to enterprise-class distributed network video recording solutions.

    So close yet so far.

Compliance to standard requiring only minimal support for the standard as whole is more than a little pointless.

The world learned nothing from VHS/Betamax.

The most successful multi-vendor standard I've seen, is ski bindings which are based on an ancient ISO/DIN standard and no matter what skis and ski boots you buy, they'll play nicely together.

I applaud standards, but good luck with getting all the CCTV vendors to play nicely, rather than trying to patent their new features.

    Unhappy

If you take a look at the you will find the industry is backing it.
There are most known vendors registers and many have released product.

My concern is the the same vendors that currently release poor quality products with exaggerated specifications will slip in with a comply to a tender for ONVIF when they only comply to a section. Not the full scope, resulting in them winning projects but not satisfying a good result.

The other issue is 'compliance plus', which is where they comply but then add their own protocols over and above this, which they hope will become de facto standard.
