Indeed, most serious campers (ie. those who have the need to shell out the $$$ for a tripod sat based VAST system + satfinder) have an inverter and quite often generous battery backup.
I got 99 problems and a crimp aint one...

No I don't have an inverter, the only thing that's not 12v is the microwave so I've never needed one. And sure an inverter would allow the UEC to work but it just adds to the cost to my mind needlessly, I should be able to simply hand in my Optus Aurora card and get a Vast card, pay a nominal fee, plug it into the decoder and go.

Yes you should, however Conroy & Freview got in your way.

Irrespective of why they havent changed to VAST, the countdown has started for the end of Aurora just as it did for Terrestrial analog which stirred the sluggards into activity once the writing was on the TV screen !!

VAST is FTA. It was only ever designed to replace the Aurora system for the mainstream TV viewers, not those who want to watch other satellites.

Like c'mon...foxtel don't make their current boxes fta either , and the gripe over no access to other sats via Vast seems way overboard. And really, it is just a hybrid of normal terrestrial fta.
Surely any good hobbiest will have ample enough boxes to play and tinker with, or they aren't worth their salt in the 1st place.

Are you sure about that model number? as sciteq already have a Humax remote that is listed as compatible with both HV-7500S and HVR-7500S "VAST satellite receivers"

Well Pocket Rocket, you may be right as on the Humax Au website they list the HVR-7500S under satellite with (TBD) next to it.
I think that means To Be Decided, so who knows really what model number the new boxes will be, as long as they are Humax.

Cool, thanks Rodnic, I can't wait for the Humax but won't be fooled by the opening paragraph.

The all new Humax HDR‐1003S VAST Dual Channel PVR will be coming to Satgear in March 2013. We have secured a limited quantity of the initial release receivers. Be the first to get this great new receiver and Pre-order via the web cart to ensure you don't miss out. For further information click on the links below.
Like Humax don't want to sell many so they only shipped a few????

Maybe Satgear, as a retailer, could only get a few and other retailers have also got hold of a few but not advertised yet?

Just received notification the Humax hits the distributors Wed May 15 so we should get hold of one quite soon now. I'm guessing they are basically the same as the terrestrial unit, in which case they will have impressive ergonomics. A very nice unit to use.

Am I missing something or do the UEC STBs come without a remote unless you use their crude kit for an add on HDD?

All UEC VAST boxes come with a remote.

The boxes sold as non-PVR have a basic remote, which does not have the PVR functions on it.

The upgrade provided a different remote, which gets paired to that decoder and has the PVR controls on it, but the original remote can still be used for all the non-PVR functions...eg: channel change, on/off, volume, guide, etc.

The non-PVR remote isn't paired, so it can be used on other UEC VAST decoders of the same model at least.... haven't had the opportunity to test one on a new PVR dual tuner box.

Thanks for that. None of the promos show a remote or is it listed anywhere I saw - hence my question.

I've decided the budget will allow a complete move over to VAST here in September so I'll be shopping for 2 VAST STBs & some more VAST PVRs. I'll try out the new VAST Humax PVR next week. Hopefully by September there will be more choices. So, if all goes well I can then say goodbye to dropouts (except in severe thunderstorms that is).

From what I have seen, all 3 ie Foxtel,Vast and Aurora are within seconds of each other either to loose or return during adverse weather conditions which is why I think you need to go for 'Big' in choosing a Dish the further South you go.
The trouble with 'Atmospherics' is that its possible for you to loose the signal but those around are still receiving.
