Yikes!! Not sure I'll get that one by the hubby.

If I could get a small box it might cheaper to get two. I might still go ahead and get the options. Any ideas?

The standard single channel VAST CAM/card is around $380.00, so if you bought two, you'd still be paying the same money as one multi-service CAM/card.

You could buy two separate VAST PVR's for the same cost.

It might help if you explain exactly what you are trying to achieve.

The 12V requirement I understand, but you're not clear what you want to do... watch/record two different VAST channels at the same time, or something else?

What features do you want on the receiver?

Almost any decoder with a CI slot that will accept a CAM will work.

As I said you have two options of VAST CAM/card. One that can access a single channel only, or one that can access up to 8 channels simultaneously.

The latter is designed for commercial rebroadcast equipment, but they will work in other boxes that have multiple tuners. (limited by the number of tuners of course.)

    Sorry about that.

Really just looking for something that can record at least 2 different channels at once. It sounds like to achieve that I'd need the commercial one?

Regarding other features being able to use program guide and ease of setting recordings is really the minimum. The UEC is really so basic that getting more than that will be a bonus. The UEC is quite unreliable for recording and the tuners seem to be quite weak. Hence why I've started to look at replacements.

One option that can record 2 VAST channels is the

It's like the UEC with a built-in card slot, not a separate CAM.

No 12V though. You could run it off an inverter.

DSR4639 Dual Channel HD Recorder.... Although it's another UEC VAST box, it does what you want.... and operates on both 240V and 12V

Regarding weak tuners... I haven't found the UEC to be any less sensitive than the Humax or Satking boxes.

A separate CAM/card and a third party decoder is a very expensive option, comparably.

The VAST signals themselves are not very strong, so the key is the bigger the dish, the better.

If it's for home use, I wouldn't install a dish any smaller than 85cm.

85cm can be a bit big to lug around for a caravan, but I would not recommend a dish any smaller than 75cm, teamed up with a good LNB... and alignment is critical, including LNB skew adjustment in particular.

I'm pretty sure our dish is 80cm. I got 80% quality signal last night for the first time on my sat finder but the UEC shows only in the low 60% quality. It now seems that rather than using the small cord to loop the box from 1 tuner to the 2nd I have to run a splitter and attach to cord to the box to get a locked signal. As we are travelling for probably another year I was trying to simplify the setup rather than complicate. Which seems to be happening.

I had two of the humax boxes at home (lived in a black spot area) and they were pretty good. As power is such a premium for me I was trying to stay away from using the inverter.

Is there a particular LNB which is better than others? I've tried the one which came with the package and recently upgraded to a strong dual lnb.

    Strong LNB's are good.

Sharp is the other one I recommend.

You shouldn't use a splitter with satellite signals, due to losses and you can't mix horizontal signals with vertical signals simultaneously, although VAST signals are all vertical at this time, so a splitter will work, but will have significant loss.

If you have a dual output LNB, you should connect one cable to each of the tuner inputs.

If you require more than two connections (Eg: if you have a Foxtel box as well) you should use a multiswitch with the desired number of outputs, which will give you completely independent selection of V and H transponders.

You can't (and shouldn't) try to compare any signal readings displayed as % (percentage) and they are only a guide and have very little accuracy.

Just align your dish and LNB for the highest reading you can get.

Only professional signal meters will provide true signal quality readings of BER and MER figures.

Providing you get reliable reception, the readings don't really matter.

If going the 2 receiver option and wanting to use both in the same room, consider getting 2 different brands so the remotes don't interfere.

Leroy - fired up the Ultraplus and VAST Card/Cam on the weekend after many months of non use due to travel. Unfortunately, the audio does not work on HDMI or component - only on composite video. Looks as though VAST may have updated their audio stream and the Ultraplus no longer is able to encode. Is there a solution to this through a software upgrade or some other method.

Apologies if this has been raised in another posting but have been offline for some time.

    thanks.

Only a fluke I looked in here lol. My vast cam is working fine. Check all cables etc and maybe do a system restore to factory default and rescan all channels.

Does anybody know where I can obtain a new HD MPEG 4 dual tuner satellite/terrestrial receiver in Australia with a cam slot. Vast cam and card no longer works with XCruiser box so would prefer another brand. Happy to look overseas if a reliable supplier exists.

    thanks.

I am in the process of installing a Vu+ Ultimo purchased fro Vu+ UK, . I actually ordered and paid for it early April but with the current virus problems it was slow getting sent and only arrived 2 days ago. It is working fine with a VAST card & CAM and will record 4 chanels simultaneously into the 3TB HDD installed internally. The only problem I now face is getting the Logitech remote to learn the different code set. There are now 3 Vu+ PVRs in service, each one dedicated to a different set of VAST frequencies (The VAST card will only handle one set at a time). It has evolved into a very expensive set up but having the skip function makes it worth while for me.

I've have a Vast cam running in a GT Media GTX Combo. It works ok but these boxes are a bit glitchy they haven't had a software update for a while now.

I would think Vast is in sunset mode. With new lower priced Starlink and or 5G one can access any channel anywhere on your smart tv or Android box.
