Optus have finally decided to shut down their resale Optus TV featuring Foxtel pay TV service as of January 31 2011.
Affected customers will be given notice in the following two weeks that Optus intends to switch off Optus TV, from February 1 2011 customers will have to seek other providers to receive pay TV services.
Though most people here would want to know that.

Where did you source this info?
If this is true,
I wonder how long before Austar is Gone too,
From memory I think there was once:
1. Galaxy
2. Foxtel,
3. Optus Vision,
4. East Coast television,
5. Austar
Etc.....
Anyone remember any more Pay TV companies ?
But the New Delivery of Pay TV will probably be though High speed "Internet", & there are a few Companies like Apple TV, Google TV, Telstra T Box, Fetch TV etc...positioning themselves now,
& I look forward to "Internet" Pay TV, (anywhere anytime)
but, lets see if a government department can over regulate it & stuff it up.

That figures
...more monopoly to Foxtel/Telstra.
Now just watch the price of Foxtel go up
@ Escape_from_Oz give credibility to your thread by adding a factual link, as I havent been able to source anything from Optus to support this claim
It's sad to see it go,just like the rest of their counterpart in this industry.I just dont know what will happen because you got Fetch TV,Tivo and Freeview..
Affected customers will be given notice in the following two weeks that Optus intends to switch off Optus TV
What does this mean,so we can't watch any optus channels
Ahh I remember the old days, when you didn't have to buy a tv magazine because you could just steal them from the foyer in the old Optus building in North Sydney.
It's been a long time coming!

Wow, I remember the Optus Show room in the Optus Building,
corner of Miller street & Pacific HWY North Sydney,
I used to go past it, most days, when I lived at McMahon's Point, in the late 1990's
I had Galaxy MDS Pay TV for a while, before they cabled the building for Foxtel,
I kept Foxtel & gave Galaxy the flick, because Foxtel had about 12 channels & Galaxy only had about 8 (from memory) at the time.

It means Optus will advise current customers that Optus will no longer provide pay tv cable channels after 31 January, 2011.
Those customers can decide if they wish to connect with another pay tv provider. eg: Foxtel, however, some may find Foxtel isn't available to them either, due to buiildings not being cabled for Foxtel, etc.
My info came from channel providers and also some people within Foxtel (up at North Ryde offices)
Looks like the "talks" between Optus and Foxtel to extend the CSA for a further 5 years has ended with Optus basically canceling the deal with Foxtel.
Someone else (Foxtel sales rep) said that Optus would terminate on December 31 all Optus TV smart cards, but i find that hard to believe as they have to give at least 30 days notice that they are withdrawing the service.
Also Optus is apparently hiring or has hired staff for the IPTV project, and a few online articles have stated that Optus is considering at least 3 potential replacement services:
1: Fetch TV with Optus supplying the HD/SD FTA channels via HFC
2: TiVO On demand with Optus supplying the HD/SD FTA channels via HFC
3: Their own IPTV service like Telstra T-Box

TARBS - Killed off by Pan Am Sat (re: Hughes Satellites) when News Corp got control of Hughes and TARBS could not pay back the what they own Hughes

I miss the good ol days of using
analogue TV Tuner card with the Bt878a chipset
Dscaler
Then Foxtel came along switched on SSAVI and we all simply changed from Dscaler to CCDXP32 ) and at the same time got access to the AO channel (minus voice) but got all the PPV's from I think around March 2004 to at least June 2007.
Yep those were the days for computer users and of course others were using modded Jerrolds/GI boxes ... or how about the Foxtel analogue end with what was the program again? hNCPlus? (I dont remember the program name) and Phoenix method the mod the STU100/1 and STU200 boxes ... LOL

Optus threatened to 'Walk Out' several years ago when they couldnt 'Share Channels' as they do today and I am actually surprised they have remained a PayTV provider as long as they have.
Remember those 2 clowns who at auction bought up the licences for an ungodly amount but didnt have 2 pennies to rub together?
When I signed up I received 2 coasters from CETV who became Galaxy shortly after with 12 channels and the ch 16 Video Wall.
I still have the coasters along with a program guide from that time.
ECTV from memory serviced the area north of Newcastle and you had to buy the dish, card and STB and pay for installation up front.
A not inexpensive exercise but when you had mayby just 2 channels and poor or no reception at all , this cost was soon forgotten.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
Yes, Australis Media (Galaxy) , made an outrageous number of bids, for the Satellite licenses & MDS licenses,
& the bids cascaded down one after another (failing to take up the offer) as I remember it, (when they found out their competition was no where near their bids)
I also remember Australis Media were plagued by money problems, continually trying to make deals to stay afloat & stay in business. (until they went under).
