take the onld one out mate and on the side there may be a stickeer , the laser number will be something like KHS-400B or something
or download a little proggie called lens changer and use that ,
Hi guys i have a 39002 ps2 but what laser do i need to buy ?
how do i check what this one is and what i need to replace it with
i bought a hd-7 of ebay and desoldiered the soldier for the diodes and it seems
to be working put does not load my discs i have a chipped ps2 i have tryed all
types even original media ? i put the old lens back in and it works again ????

yeah tryed the lens changer didnt do anything i think the new laser hd7 i have got it is faulty or something
should be over 4 Ohms
If the laser was originally a KHS-400C(400B were on V3 & 4) u cant just stick a R-type/HD7 & expect it to work.You need to use the lenschanger program as stated above.
Also, all ps2 lasers are refurbs,& they are flakey IMO.

if your original laser was 400C (3900 never used 400B) , for a quick testing, HD7 should just work without lens changer. it starts slowly then reads fine after.
if your origianl one was HD7 and you put a 400C, it won't work at all without lens changer.
400C...400B who gives a toss, if you are replacing something this old, I'd be seriously looking at replacing the console, unless it is chipped. No offence to owner intended.
