    Default Decoder Box (STB) advice

    Hi all,

I subscribe to Austar and Optus Aurora (legally) and I would like your help please.

Is there a decoder box that will allow me to insert both of my Austar and Optus Aurora cards at the same time and watch channels from either card.

I want to do this while caravaning, as I had to take my Austar box and my Humax 5400z with me in the van. i had to change over the dish cable from one box to the other to view each box.

As I'm very new to this please don't take it for granted that I understand all abeverations and jargen you blokes use.

    Thanks in advance.

I think some of the strong boxes have a card slot and also a cam slot

Stong 4658x and you'll need a purple 2.26 Irdeto cam.

Which reminds me, surely you need to repoint the dish every time the van moves? Or is there some kind of device that can automatically do that for you?

Just buy a cam for your Humax and run both No need for a new box.

    Hi Jumpingmanjim (no relation).

Yes, you do have to repoint the dish every time the van moves, but I have it down to a fine art now. After ariving at a new Park I can have it setup and watching tv in approx 10 minutes. I was in Darwin with the van last year for 12 weeks which made it worth while.

I have a file on my laptop that gives the dish elevation, LNB skew and Magnetic Azmuth for the majority of towns in Australia. This really makes it easy.

    Regards

Ah yes I forgot it's the other box that doesn't have a cam slot!

Given that Austar doesn't seem to work in third party boxes now, i would hold off on that Humax purchase

Yes , please ignore my suggestion. A " change in the airwaves " today by Austar has just cancelled your options on that

    Hey Everyone,

I am in the same situation but want to run Austar and Aurora on the one tv. Is it possible to use the loop out of one box into the other? Or would this not be possible because Austar and Aurora use different polarizations? So I would have to turn one of the boxes off everytime I wanted to watch the other?

If so would it just be better to buy a dual polarization LNB quad output (because I already have 2 austar boxes, so dual LNB) and replace the dual ouptut one I already have on the Austar dish and just run another cable?

Sorry If this question has been asked before, I did search.

    Thanks, Regards, Nathan

I'd be swapping your dual lnb for a quad or you could buy a spaun multiswitch which is what I did. You connect the dual outputs of your LNB to the multiswitch and then connect the outputs to all your boxes. You can get 4 way, 8 way or more.
