    Default Boquets

    Hi Guys,

I have noticed recently that you can now only select the boquet of which state the smartcard is registered to. Their must have been a software update recently which disabled this.

Does anybody know how to choose another states boquet? I'm just keen to know as I like tinkering

    Cheers

All the bouquets are only available when the decoder and card is first connected prior to authorisation. However, the bouquet choice is eliminated once the card has been officially authorised to what ever service you then have. Limiting the bouquets is a bit pointless, being as the card can only access the channels you have been authorised to view anyway. We are all being treated as little kids.

I thought the restriction applied to commercial channels only and that after registration/authorisation, you still get all states ABC & SBS channels.

Can someone confirm if this is or isn't correct?

When Foxtel ran UEC boxes, different bouquets were available and then the option was removed via a firmware upgrade. It sounds like Vast is playing the same game.

Has the box recently downloaded an upgrade ? I presume the firmware has a date somewhere in the menus? Or did it change on activation as earlsdon suggested ?

The box appears to check (& if available, download) updates whenever it's booted up/switched on from standby.

The poster is right...you only get the commercial channels for your region i.e. North, South, Central or whatever plus ALL abc/sbs...yes, bouquet selection disappears

i had this box since June and can confirm the option to change boquets was still their in early December even though I activated in June.

It does seem pointless to limit the boquets though as you are restricted in what you can view anyway...

The ability to select bouqets is removed after the firmware upgrade. What was nice when you first powered on is replaced with jsut a stack of channels just lumped in together...

I imagine if they kept scrambled channels in the list, people would be calling the VAST helpline constantly.

Sounds like its beyond their technical ability like Austar to allow the user to lock out blank or scrambled channels.

Perhaps they are expecting piracy. Thats why Foxtel did it.

When paytv piracy really took hold in the days of gold cards, most people just used their existing foxtel UEC box and changed to the minimum package while using a gold card to view everything. Using a gold card showed up numerous bouquets and foxtel did an over the air firmware upgrade that changed the software from 2.07 to 2.09. This stopped people having access to this full channel bouquet and only left some bouquets that didnt show all channels.

From memory there was some way of stopping your box upgrading but I cant remember how......I think it was a hardware mod.

It involved lifting the write enable pin on the eeprom and conecting it via a 10k resistor to earth to tie it to ground, thus preventing OTA firmware upgrades
Reality is an invention of my imagination.
