    Default Abc24 picture quality

Just wondering if anybody else has poor picture quality with ABC24 through component. I'm using hdmi in kitchen which is fine but component in lounge is poor , all the other channels are fine with component it's just ABC24. I checked out a neighbors who is using component and he's go the same prob. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

If you change the TV display settings to 1080 instead of the default of 576 you may get better results.

The real problem is the quality of the decoder - all the HD channels look poor to me.

Yep... the box comes with 576i set as default, so as those with older screens, particularly CRT TV's will work with the decoder straight out of the box..... and HD looks bloody terrible on a large screen with this default resolution.... so as suggested, change the HD output setting to 1080i.

I've seen VAST HD on a 50" Pana plasma, connected via HDMI and to me it looked quite reasonable.... especially if you've been watching Aurora!

I've seen it on CRT's too, connected via composite and it looks good, but I agree with others that think the component out on the POS UEC box looks very ordinary.

I have noticed that the recent floods coverage on ABC24 has looked inferior a lot of the time, compared to previously... even the terrestrial HD channel, so perhaps the bit-rate is lower ATM for some reason?

Can you connect the box via HDMI?

You're not going to get 1080i out of component outputs!

    Leroy
I'm pretty sure I saw 1080i as an output option.

I'm watching on 42" SD plasma at the moment through av leads. All channels have great quality except ABC 24. When flood coverage was simulcast on ABC 1, the picture quality was noticeably better over there than ABC 24

I raised the issue of poor quality component out on another post and stand by what I said previously - its appalling. Am irresistably drawn to conclude that the UEC is a cheap option, crappy box.
