    Default .Avi on Panasonic Plasma.

    Hi,

Friend rang me, he just bought a Panasonic 58" Plasma, and a 1TB drive. gave it to another friend that filled the drive with .avi files....

when he connects the drive it does not recognise the file format. Its a mpeg2 capable TV.

What are his options here. I think converting ALL the movies is out of the question as that would take weeks/months

Is there anything on the market that he can buy, an wack the drive into that will work?

Seems the TV has some Laptop option, being able to show whats on the laptop (PC), would playing the external drive on laptop connected up to the plasma be the easiest solution?

He was trying to not have ANY other box mounted (he just wanted the plasma mounted - and plug in the drive, which would be removed after viewing) but now is looking for some solution.

    the model is

Yeah Mickc, thats what he said..... he told me he can, and gets and error message. unrecognised file format

the manual says ... data format SD card / USB flash memory
video : mpeg-2 (ps format) and AVCHD standard compatible files (A modified data with a PC may not be displayed correctly)

can plug in usb flash drives (sorry trying to read the pdf on iphone)

Maybe a drive size issue? Try loading 1 file onto a 2-4GB stick and see if it recognizes it. Is the drive file system using NTFS as I think it should be FAT32?

Hopefully he formatted the drive in NTFS so he just has to do a reformat to FAT32 and a reload of the avi's and all should be ok.

Office works have WD live $98 and trickie dickies will price match less 5% of the difference in price.
Also Aldi have a media player reduced at our local store to $79 and supposedly plays all files MKV included

Mine plays them. They must be fat32 unfortunately which means your limited to below 4gB. It doesn't recognise NTFS. Try a SD card
