12v VAST decoders have been available from Campersat for months.
    Thought everyone knew.
Most travellers these days have 240v inverters anyway & the small amount of power used by the inverter for the Vast Decoder is way overshadowed by even the most efficient TV.

Still a usefull option for those that don't have an inverter.

Very expensive! $499 for the same receiver running on 12V!

I disagree. Most serious travelers I meet, wire up for 12v only. Once you add a tv, stb/dvd player, a couple of laptops and mobile phone chargers you need a decent size inverter, something like 600w at least. That inverter is going to lose a heap of efficiency.

It's counteractive to say your tv is drawing heaps of power so you might as well not worry about using more by way of an inverter for the stb. Every bit of power you save counts when traveling.

I'd be more convinced if they simply published the '12v mod model' vs 'inverter and std model'; power consumption in watts.

Geez $220 to smash your warranty, for something that an $80 300w mod sine wave inverter will do on it's ear ... and run your lappy, charge your mobile phone, camera battery etc etc.

One add says "It pulls about 1Amp on 12V' or 12 watts.

What does a std box use at 240v (Watts)?

My appologies, just checked webshop at Campersat/Videosat & they don't appear to have the 12v model listed anymore.
Back in early December they had them at the same price as 240V model $279.

Maybe they discontinued because of warranty issues, as according to Altech UEC warranty conditions, as listed on Warranty thread, they will not cover anything tampered with or modified by anyone other than an authorised Altech UEC repairer.

So I'd be carefull about buying one that's been modified & certainly wouldn't pay $499 for one. They are not worth more than $100 plus the $179 for the VAST card.

BTW one of the links at ebay Viewer posted is infact a standard UEC DSD4121 Decoder with inverter for $369, so that's just an additional $85 for the inverter.
Not that bad really & shouldn't void your warranty.
My power for 240V is inverted Sinewave & havn't had any probs with any appliances.
    Cheers.
