Default What operating system for HP IPAQ HX4700

I have a HP IPAQ HX4700 (which is geting old like me) and I was wondering if it can run Windows Mobile 5 or 6.

It is currently running its original system, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition.

I mainly use the unit to run my CoPilot Live GPS. Should I leave as is or upgrade the operating system if it will run it ?

Any ideas or helpful comments appreaciated.

    Regards.

Is there some reason that you want too upgrade the OS. Unless there is some new features in WindowsMobile that you want, why change it. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

    Thanks for the reply GavinSV.

I agree totally with you, if it's not broken, don't fix it.

My only concern was with it being so old, that the newer software (CoPilot Live 7) it may struggle to run it. But I think I may have jumped the gun a bit.

I think I'll stay as I am for now and deal with upgrading OS if or when needed.

    Regards

The latest WM 6.1 is available for your PDA...I would suggest you install it...you'll find a whole host of new features...and it will run faster than ever!

That seems to be a good link for more info and other links...

Just installed 6.1 to my 4700. Was running 6.0 and noticed a huge speed improvement.

It is way better than 2003. Just download the loader and firmware (I used Sanjay's version) from the_scotsman's link, extract it to c:\ (root directory), disable wcescomm.exe via control panel, put your ipaq into bootloader mode (might take a few tries), plug it into the usb cable and away you go.

    takes around 15 minutes......

    Hi hoe,
I hate to be a pain but........what program do you use to open the "pda61kbd.nbf" file. I'm running Windows XP home edition which won't open this file.

    Thanks hoe,

I did download the loader, if only I had opened it all would have been explained.

Thank you for your help, much appreciated.

Default hx 4700 6.1 upload fail

    Good day

I give in, another words HELP! Im ready to pay some one to load 6.1 from Kozhura onto my 4700. Right now I have spent about 10 hours trying to get it to load. I have been following the directions but I'm missing something.

After a lot of time I got it to load, but now it seems to be in "clearing files" mode. It comes out of that mode if I do the reset thing. I can get it back to the hp USB screen. I'm charging the battery now in hopes to get it to do something else. I will try again to reload tonight, but don't expect much.

I also have the HP wm 6.1 upgrade but I rather not load it because of what I hear about the benefits of the Kozhura 6.1.

Press the POWER + iTASK + CONTACTS buttons at the same time and hold all of them. Then quickly press the Reset button on the bottom and release all of them. The screen with HP logo in the middle will appear having the bootloader version at the bottom and the text “Serial” on the top. If you then connect the device to USB, the text “Serial” will change to “USB”.

Try renaming these files(add a dash or something) in the windows folder of your PPC:
    BTSDKCE30.dll
    BTCORELF.dll
Helped me before but I am not sure which 6.1 ROM version that was. I have tried several now.

Has anybody got WiFi working on the HX4700 with WPA/TKIP ?
... and with what exact ROM version?

Does anybody know how to stop or minimise the general memory leaks on this device?
