How to install a new map on any TomTom model from scratch. Easy-to-follow steps!
If your TomTom is working fine with no problems but all you need to do is upgrade your map, then do the following:
1. Connect your device to your computer via USB.
2. Look in My Computer, go to your TomTom drive, backup the contents of your TomTom. Alternatively, you can do this using Windows Explorer.
3. Delete the map folder.
4. Unplug your TomTom device. Start your TomTom.
5. Check your navcore version. If it is version 8.2xx or higher, then you may use the full featured 860.3101 map which gives you IQ, ALG & Cspeech.
Otherwise, if your navcore version is below 8.2xx, then you need to either upgrade your navcore by using an SE navcore (such as 8.562 SE), or use the basic 860.3100 map without the full features.
6. Reconnect your TomTom to your computer. Copy across the contents of the latest Australia map into a folder, renaming it "Australia".
7. Run FastActivate Premium Edition 1.8 from the root of the device, clicking on all 4 options in order: update meta, activate maps, patch navcore & home.
The following steps are for anyone having problems running a new map or getting map error messages. This procedure involves a clean install:
1. Connect your device to your computer via USB
2. Look in My Computer, go to your TomTom drive, backup the contents of your TomTom. Then right click on your TomTom drive and format your device.
3. Install the latest version of TomTom Home
4. Run TomTom Home, go to updates and download the latest navcore.
5. Restart TomTom Home and run updates until all of them have been completed.
6. Unplug your TomTom device. Start your TomTom. This will create a new ttgo.bak file which will be needed when activating the map.
8. Reconnect your TomTom to your computer. Copy across the contents of the latest Australia map into a folder in the root of your device, renaming it "Australia".
9. Copy across the voices folder from your backup into the root of your device. (Or you can download voices from TomTom Home).
10. Run FastActivate Premium Edition 1.8 from the root of the device, clicking on all 4 options in order: update meta, activate maps, patch navcore & home.

Good work Lemonfish
The Next Mod to come in here can you make this thread a "sticky"
Thanks for the useful guide.
Are you able to explain more on 4 options inside FastActivate ?
You mentioned: "clicking on all 4 options in order: update meta, activate maps, patch navcore & home."
what's the purpose and are all of them mandatory?
The purpose is self explanatory:
1) Update meta updates the meta file via the internet. Without the meta file, you can't activate your map.
2) Activate maps/voices/cams - without this, you can't use the map and it won't run.
3) Patch navcore needs to be done with most navcores, except for SE navcores which are usually prepatched.
4) Patch Home is needed if you want to use the "Operate My TomTom" feature in Home.
So yes, they are all mandatory.

As mentioned in the first post, either
(1) update your navcore via TomTom Home,
or
(2) download an SE navcore such as version 8.562 SE and extract the contents of the navcore onto the root of the device. (Note: Choosing this step means you need to format your device first).

Unfortunately not here on your device. But you can check your navcore version at any time on TomTom HOME. Go to Help - System Information and your navcore should be shown under Connected device - Installed Items.
I tried to edit my first post to move up the step about checking your navcore version, but this forum doesn't allow editing of posts after a day or so.
In your case, for your model you should already have a navcore higher than version 8.2xx, so you can use the full featured 860.3101 IQ map.

Thanks Lemonfish.. i was worried that updating the Navcore might drop the FM broadcast function... thus why i wanted to check before updating.
Seems i can update map, speed cameras without fear of that now.... I hope

Thanks, yes i've done a bit of reading on the FM Transmitter. And it was an action by law to remove it (according to what you read on the net anyway).
So is there a way to check current Navcore version on the TT GO 730?
Via windows explorer perhaps?
Yes, my back up is locked away.
