They're just sending someone up to fix the problems on the satellite

Don't get rid of your aurora stb just yet.
The 800 channel is now displaying a page saying that the software upgrade will be done from mid Febuary to March, improvements in broadcast quality should be noticed from mid Feb. Blah Blah Blah.

anything can happen in that time frame
maybe even telecasts for us in the west, but I wont hold my breath
Anything after the 15th is 'Mid' in a month with only 28 days and this week is as good as over.
SBS did a bit of freezing during the late Friday movie, always just before, never during the 'action' which is disconcerting..................

It does say that the upgrade will be done incrementally after thorough testing & service improvements should be noticed before the end of the month. They say they want to make sure the upgrade has no detrimental effects on the service.
At least they are trying to fix things & informing us, if we feel like being bored for 3 minutes to cycle thru the info channel pages.
Also, 3 of us that had ticking sounds on some channels have noticed that the sounds are gone, so there doing something at there end.
All they need to do now is fix the freezing & provide a range of boxes with PVR facilities & I'll be content.
Would be ecstatic if they allowed all satellite decoder manufacturers to offer a decoder.

Well, at least there'll be greater choice after the UEC 'exclusivity' deal expires in March/April.
Any manufacturer that wishes to release a box should be able to do so, provided it meets the VAST specs.
If UEC managed to do that with their POS box, it shouldn't be too difficult for others to better it.

Thanks for that mtv, have read before about exclusivity deals but didn't know for sure. Guess you know.
Can't wait, bring on the revolution.

I did hear those clicks as reported by others and it reminded me of the 'Handshake' tones you can sometimes hear on a car radio if a Mobile phone is close to it.
There are numerous 'Paths' the signal takes before we see it on a screen and that makes me wonder is the fault always in the STB ?

Must say I'm pleased that the ticking has stopped,it was a little annoying to say the least. I did hear that we are supposed to get the terrestrial signals in Alice next month. Quite funny when you think of it....
1) the signal will be entering Alice springs via satellite anyway. Would be extremely surprised if they push it down the Telstra fibre.
2) They will then be re broadcasting it via terrestrial. Only benefit will be that I can use my hdhomerun box and windows media center.
Anyway, good to see the issues are being worked ;-)
Pete
the only problem with the new box providers will be those of us stuck with the crap box
because of them marrying box and card.
we sometimes hear clicks on phone lines from a nearby electric fence ..
I wonder if they have an electric fence there at Vast headquarters .
. just to keep the commonsense beasts out ..

Maybe the cards will be "unmarried" from the current UEC boxes when other manufacturers get their boxes approved?
