    Default Slots 2 + 4 ?

    Hi all,

I am running a P4- 3Ghz using a P4P-800E mobo. Currently I have 512mb in slots 1 + 3 and am upgrading 1gig in these slots. can I put the old 512mb in slots 2 + 4 and will that give me 3 gig ram in total?

I know replacing the existing ram is no problem but I want to know what you do with slots 2 + 4?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi myf360f1,

If the ram is compatible, it will work only if the board supports a maximum of 3GB. Some boards only accept a max of 2GB, even though they have 4 slots. Please check in your user manual and that will tell you. I imagine that board takes ddr1 ram?

    Hi Aflman,

I would have checked in the manual if my darling son didn't use it to cut his teeth on it and reduce it to shreds. Tried to download one from the ASUS site but its obsolete and not supported anymore. The ram is DDR-400 PC 3200, and have just completed the upgrade to 2GB, was only curious if I could use the previous 2 x 512mb as well rather than leaving them out. I have googling this but to little avail.

    Cheers and Thanks
