    I was never a supporter of desal' plants in Australia, it stinks of dodgy economics and greedy deals to me, but I softened slightly on the possible "benefit" when the mothballed plant in QLD was brought online after the floods to supply clean water... maybe we do need them as backup for disaster, but I'm still not sold on them for normal everyday use.

    I tend to agree with you Azza, as you never hear about the environmental issues these will cause - on the understanding most of these plants are using seawater as input, therefore very saline waste product being discharged. Problem is that the cost to put these things in will make it hard for politicians to use them on occasional as extremely needed scenarios.
