So many to choose from Marty... I got so sick of waiting for the convert, it was just faster to download the movie

Win to Avi rings a bell.

Seems Megaupload did not like the file as I cannot access it.

    Thanks for the effort.

I use DVD decrypter and to convert to AVI I use AutoGK.

AVI is old school encoding can whatever your player is do MP4 or MKV. If it does I would use a program called handbrake for the conversion. Then you'll end up with a better quality conversion.

The way I do it, and this is only my way, others have different ideas...

I use dvd decrypter to rip the movie into one single VOB using IFO mode then I use AutoGK to convert from the one VOB file to an AVI (XVID) to a suitable file size than maintains decent quality. General rule, like most, single TV episode, 45 min in length, 350 Mb, movie or 90Min, 700 MB.....and so on.

Worked for me for years, have had no reason to move away from this method.

I use Tipard dvd ripper, or WinX DVD ripper platinum.

Found them to be the best, like tipard the better, they both do all the usual including ripping, cropping, trimming and effects

No, none at all, however I do run it on a fairly powerfull unit, I've just finished converting a blueray copy of Burlesque from MKV (5.4Gb) to VOB (DVD) and the end result is perfectly in sync. Total conversion to an External USB 3.0 storage drive took just under an hour (48.5 Mins) - yes it would have been faster to dl a new copy but I couldn't find the resolution quality that was available in MKV format.

    cheers

AVI may not be your best choice. The uncompressed files can be huge! I've always used Handbrake to rip DVDs to MP4. You get some pixellization, but it is minimal and most computers can play MP4 or M4V depending on your computing platform.
