    Default Blocked Website

Looking for some advice for a Mate.........

For some reason whenever he tries to access the new FOXTIX website it will not load as if it is blocked but he can access other ticket sites and other sites in general.

At first I thought it must be a security setting on he's browser so I walked him through adjusting them but still no luck , So I had him try another Browser but that didn't work.

Next I had him turn off he's firewall ,Antispyware,Antivirus in sequence to see if that was blocking it but still not working.

Even had him reset browser to default settings no good.

He rang he's provider Bigpond and they said its he's issue

By this stage this was becoming a real pain what is blocking this website so I had a thought and had him try to access FOXTIX via a proxy site and guess what the bulk off the page then loads.....But not really the option were looking for.

So if anyone has any ideas as to what may be blocking this I would love your advice as he lives over the other side of town and it's not possible for me to duck over there.

    Many thanks

    Bigfella

hey bigfella, check to see if he has a dyndns server (or the auto ip updater) - it has an internet filter that blocks sites

Foxtix loads as an "authenticated" site using a "SSL Server Certificate"... so check his security settings in the browser etc.

Had a similar problem last week on a friends comp, every time he went to his fav P2P sites he was blocked out. By chance i checked his Internet settings.

Go to tools, Internet option, connection tab, LAN settings and make sure that the proxy server is unticked. It should be blank with port 80 grayed out, that solved my problem and had no idea how the address got in there in the first place.

Still no luck on he's end He actually uses firefox as he's default browser...

May have to go there next weekend and check if he's router has a firewall with options that may be blocking it for some reason.

If not already done, download CCLEANER and run to get rid of all stored history and cookies.
The site worked for me a minute ago using Opera.

OK a long shot... and it usually isn't a problem on home networks. I have seen that the standard Windows MTU length of 1500 cause problems with https type sites, ie home banking on some networks. You can adjust the MTU using this tool

    SG TCP Optimizer

But as I said it is a long shot.

    Hi Bigfella,

I wonder if it could be the DNS settings in the ADSL modem that could be at fault. See if they are set for Auto Discover. Or you could also change them to say the ones used buy OpenDNS and see what happens. If you try OpenDNS just goto their website and you'll find the numbers at the bottom of the page.

I could be completely wrong but it's worth a shot.

get him to open a command prompt and run a tracert to the site he is trying to access, have a look at where it stalls for clues, it could be a routing issue between him and the site in which case he'd need to escalate the problem with his ISP

check any custom DNS settings he has in place, try default settings if he is not using them already, if his setup does use the default try using Google's DNS 8.8.8.8 instead

How'd you go with your mate bigfella?

I had a very similar problem ages ago, I simply couldn't access isohunt, I remember googling this and found a webpage which seemed to suggest that thge issue may be to do with an MS update that came through, I've just built a new h/d and using IE 6 have no problems with accessing isohunt, I'm in the process of downloading the updates as I type and will soon find if my problem returns, fingers crossed it doesn't.
