Default USB DVB-S2 satellite tuner for use with TSReader, DVB Viewer etc

    Hi All,

Just thinking of getting a USB DVB-S2 satellite tuner for use with TSReader, DVB Viewer etc and wondering what people use?
I'm thinking USB only because I mostly use a laptop these days.
    Any suggestions/recommendations?

Hi Leroy, Have a look at TBS QBOX S2. They sell them on Ebay. I haven't got one of these but I did just purchase a TBS6891 DVB-S2 twin tuner which is a pci-e and it seems to work ok.

laptop eh? You still need to attach the dish cable to it

Yeh, PCI TBS dual card works good for me as well, the USB version should be ok.

    Cheers

Sorry for hijacking your thread Leroy, but this little number does seem interesting. Even supports SR up to 45. Looks like it only FTA though.

Would be good to hear some feedback.

I've just noticed the also do a QBOX version 3. Which does receive a few more S2 modes......DVB-S2/DVB-S DIRECTV 8PSK QPSK Demodulator.
    8PSK/H-8PSK/QPSK/BPSK mode

It might be a better version to consider buying than the other one I posted.

Maybe compare all the spec's between the two units.

    Hi Xplorer,

You'll find all sat cards are FTA, it's the software you use with them that makes all the difference.

Whilst the application software determines what use you get out of the streams it's also critical to choose hardware that has well designed drivers for full DVB-S2 support and doesn't react badly when other similar devices are connected to the USB bus or PCI slots.
An example of a DVB-S2 USB tuner that I swear by is the Tevii S660 which has excellent drivers. Technotrend tuners on the other hand have horrible drivers that haven't been improved and debugged properly for a long time.

If you only have a single tuner connected to your PC then you won't experience any significant driver issues with most software, but if you use 9 tuners on a PC like me then driver conflict and issues can be a big problem.

Hi davmel, I can't say i've had any problems with cards and drivers yet. At the moment I'm running 2 compro S350 pci and the TBS6891 and they all seem to interact ok.

Yes, as long as the software supports it (most do).

You could try Progdvb. You may also need to install the DisEQC module which is found in the Plugins/Modules section on the Progdvb website.

I don't have DisEQC setup so I'm not sure how well it works. But it's worth a go I think.

    Hi,
I do not use it much now (got myself VuDuo box) but TBS dual tunner worked with DiseqC very well with DVBViewer stright out of the box. I would check your Diseq switch.
    Cheers.
EDIT: my gratitude for NZ's people in the time like this, hope all your relatives are ok.
