Converting AVI to MPG

Hey all, can someon give me the name of a good free program that converts avi to mpg. I downloaded one to find out that i need to register it in order to use properly.

350 meg avi - 15 minutes to convert to mpeg2

700meg file = 22 minutes to convert to mpeg2

i have tested it and runs like a pig on my setup .I have tried about 5 different versions and the 6.3 is by far the best on my system

Tried that ConvertxtoDVD and its pretty cool , easy to use and its fast.

ConvertxtoDVD will convert those Xvid avi files that you download to DVD.
