The first two and last two pins on the fluro display should have some AC volts on them to drive the display filament and the rest of the pins should have -20 to -30 on them.

Check the capacitors c708, c709 and c710 these could upset the negative volts to the display driver.

    No worries mate.

Don't forget to check the resistors that NZ Alarm Tech found faulty. If they are open circuit they will have to be replaced with the same time and they have to be fusible resistors. Normally the caps I posted about will also be suspect.

    Thanks mickstv for the manual
A mate brought me one that was dead intermitantly, standyby volts ok, no stby led
Turned out to be a pb switch s746 under the display, one leg broken(just int touching) that acts as a link for earthing r701
I have dropped out of the repair game, and couldn't have done it without the pdf, a little bit less in the e waste
    cheers

Hi. mickstv. I recently dug a working AV 716 out of the trash. The crisp clear sound is quickly recognizable. The display is dark. I tried to download your manual but the server has been seized by the US government. Can you please re-up that manual? Thanks for all you do!

Here's a link to the AV716 service manual, I found the link whilst doing a google search. Just click on it and it will download a PDF.

Its R921,and there is another R922(both 0.47ohm 0.5W). Now to try and find where to buy one. Would these be fusible type resistors? They are pale in colour(cream)and run warm going by other beside it.
Late reply, but this (replacing R921 + R922) did it in 2019 for me!
