thanks in advance... I have dv392h not dv390h, but i guess codes will be the same.
Using the remote control open tray
Press 0, 0, 0
Region selection will appear.
Select 0 for no region (ie. all regions)
Press pause button on remote control.
Turn Unit off and back on again.
It should now be region free.
Test your disk.
If 0,0,0, does not work try 0,0,0,0,
Thanks iwacelect, the 7 zero method also works for the LG DBRH197 DVD/HDD Recorder
I'm very sorry to bother you nice people, not having been a member of this forum until about a minute ago, but this seems to be the only place on the Internet where people know what they're doing with unlocking DVD players
So I bought the LG DVX350, and it won't get region free! I've tried all the mentioned options, but none of them worked. None of the codes trigger a menu in which I can choose the region, and the multiple zeros don't do anything.
Are there any other options?

try videohelp.com. type in make/model number and follow instructions.
I looked at buying an LG HDD/DVD burner recently and used videohelp to see if it was listed.
I am surprised the 7 X 0 didnt work as it seems to be an LG popular code.
As videohelp is basicallya UK/EU site, dont be too surprised to see your model number isnt listed as a DVX350, it could be simply DV350 or DVX***, same model but in a different market.
You dont have to register to use videohelp.
I'd actually already tried videohelp (and I'm in the EU, so that should help ) because I'd used a code from there for my previous LG DVD player, but no such luck this time.
I think I'm just going to try all the LG possibilities they mention
As an after thought, I have a LiteOn brand HDD/DVD (LVW-5045) and to open up the menu to get to the region settings, you have to go to the disc icon at the bottom of the menu list BUT you have to scroll to it only one way.Go from top to bottom one icon at a time. If you try to scroll the opposite way, (press 'up',) the damn thing will NOT respond to the 4 digit code needed to access the setting. Also the tray door has to remain closed unlike many that need it to be open.
But the NEC DVD burner (NDR-50) wants it open and the '0' (Zero) pressed 7 times to open the region setting menu, ala LG.
Annoying arent they?
I recently bought an el-cheapo DVD player for $40 and although the book says its a region 4, it has played 1,2,4 and 'burnt' without a problem.
I still can't find a way to unlock the LG DV390H. Also videohelp.com doesn't have any info:
I spent Christmas in England, where I came across cheap boxsets of my favourte show that for some reason, have not been released in Australia yet -and so I went searching on the net to see if I could find a DVD player that would be able to play them on here.
Both the LG site and the people in the shops assured me that I would be able to play them on this player (LG DV390H). The installation instructions, however, told a different story, and I was just about to take a very large hammer to it and shred the instructions while screaming very loudly, when I decided to check the internet as a last resort - and there you were.
Thank you SO much for the clearly laid out instructions on how to make the machine become a multi-region player, you have no idea how frustrated I was, and so to come across a calmly laid out, well written set of directions was absolutely fantastic.
Well done and keep it coming. I have a feeling I may well be back for more help as and when my complete lack of technological skills rears its ugly head once more as it almost certainly will.
