no luck in there, thanks anyway.
$60 bucks to buy a haynes/gregorys manual for it, both drive shafts popped out this morning and i just wanted to see how they are held in, i think they are clips of some sort.

cv joint/drive shaft from the box, they have a spline and i think theres a little clip or something that holds them into the gearbox.

Hang on your drive shafts just popped out?

From where, they are normally bolted onto the transmission drive flanges, are you sure the bolts didnt just fall out.

2 other things come to mind without pics to see what happened.

1 The drive shafts were the wrong ones, and most likely too short.
When hitting a bump the cv joint could pull out of its housing, taking the rubber boot off at the same time.

2 The actual transmission flange came out. If this happend you could look at the splines that go into your gearbox. Look along the splines for a machined narrow groove all the way around, if you find one chances are someone forgot you circlips.

Regardless of how it happened id be on the phone to them with a attitude.

    Hope this helps.

i can supply new drive shafts for most passenger cars for under $100.00 each [2 year warranty]..the only reason thay would pop out if that wernt "clicked in" properly, or the outer circlips were loose or worn.or a major front end problem.

i had the car towed back to the mechanics, i will find out today. Global im fairly sure they "clip in" as Billone said, maybe he put the wrong ones in, i think the GSR ones are diff from the standard ones.

    thanks for the input

Popped out from the gearbox/diff (front wheel drive), they are on a spline with a sir clip at the end, (i think, thus the manual ) this mates with the spline in the gearbox/diff and the clip should hold them in.

Normally there would be a wire clip on the end of each shaft which locks the shaft into the gear box splines. If both popped out perhaps they where forgotten or less lightly the wrong size (too small to lock in)

I would be having a bit of a chat with the guy who fitted them. I hope he did not fix your brakes too.

    Are the GSR's 4wd?

You could eyeball a EVO 8 manual from pdftown, should be a similar drive line.

Anyway a little late now that it's back a the cough "bullshit" cough mechanics.
    Did you give him hell?

Holdern manuals are hard to find.
Some commo forum owners scan them and post them for members when asked nicely.

some gsr's come out AWD, turbo and all the goodies, mine is not, however, the stock GSR's had the DOHC motor, bigger brakes and other stuff that im yet to find out as opposed to the glx which was totally bog stock, as i see it the GSR was the first of the EVO's and im told most stuff can be bolted up, with stuff all mods, anyway, as it turns out the pin that holds the spider gears in the diff fell out, this is what caused the drive shafts to come out (dont ask me exactly what went on in there) but the end of the drive shafts were chewed away, bottom line is the car is no hotrod and the mechanic is a good bloke and if i had the time i would have looked into it myself The manual i can buy from repco or where ever is only for the glx not the gsr,(cant find a GSR workshop manual anywhere) so a workshop manual (covering motor, trans, so on) for glx, is no good for DOHC, 5 speed man, bigger brakes, and so on, i did have a look at pdftown and found little on lancers, will have another look.

    cheers
