    Default Jacuzzi Advice

    Hi Everyone

I am grudgingly having to accept from the rest of the family to install an external Jacuzzi (takes over the location where I once had the children's Cubby House) ... the things one has to do.

Whilst I know this is not an easy exercise I would appreciate any advice about this before I make any plans or purchases.

The family is asking for a 6 or 8 person Jacuzzi. I have plenty of space (about 6m x 6m at least) and am thinking to have the false grass put in place to get rid of dirt and grass that gets messy (especially when it rains)

A cover over the top such as a sail cloth well high in the air might do well to provide extra cover during hot weather or if it rains ... great for when one has parties as well

This could be a "do it myself" job (except for the special plumber / electrical stuff) or if I am convinced I could give the whole lot to someone as a complete job

Any and all advice will be appreciated. Many Thanks in advance.

All I can say is, go for gas heated.
It will heat up much quicker.
I've had our outdoor spa for over 10 years now and it's relaxing to suck a couple of beers in the 37 - 38 ° C spa.
Electric heaters will require keeping the spa water at a certain temp and when you decide to have one, you will have to crank the heater up to get the spa hot. (well in advance as it takes ages) Gas is so much quicker. If I decide I want to hop in the spa it will take between 30 - 40 minutes from cold to hot.
I've seen plenty of people happily sitting in their spa at 30 ° C but in my eyes a spa should be close to body temp. There's nothing more relaxing.
You'll also want the most powerful blower you can get. The massaging effect from this is also very relaxing.

    Totally agree!!!

As for doing it yourself, why not?
I have friends that have made fantastic spa enclosures... walled on 3 sides with a roof, flat screen TV, AV sender to watch Pay TV in the Spa
Up lights in the decking. Sitting with lift up lids to stow things away
I dont have the choice of "town" gas where i live, so most people go electric, but if i was to build one for myself, it would be gas fired and i'd stash a 45Kg bottle somewhere and mount a wall hung gas instantaneous HWS for the spa.

Start having a look around the net, i'm sure you'll find some good ideas

    Hi.

B4 the pool with spa on the end.
we had a Spa. Outdoor. Plug in with a garden hose water supply.5 man.

Teak vertical planking down outsides and fully weatherproof.
Came with an insulated clip down cover..and held it's heat very well

Electric. But you just kept it ticking over at 25. (in the winter) and coupla hrs b4 use crank it up to the 36deg.
Wasn't that much to run. and if you want the convenience of such things. Just accept the running costs.

Also. If you have a cover\roof over it. try to make it removable.

We used to sit out in ours at night. Behind the house. Under the stars.
    It was beautiful.
But after we built the deck and extension (2 storey). It was under the deck.
After looking up at timber flooring for a while (It ain't the same....)
    . We stopped using it.
And built the pool. with Spa. in the back garden.
That also has a heater or two. and sits on 31\32 deg's all yr..

I don't think gas (which we could only have as Bottled up here) would be much different to Heat pump costs. Once you have it up to temp. with a decent cover on it. and good insulation round it down south...

Our 8x4. 2 + mtr deep pool running at 31\32. only costs around $900 a yr to maintain temp's..
But the summer temp's up here hold pool at 31\34 by itself..I cool it down a bit sometimes. (the small booster heater is reverse cycle.)..

    You'll enjoy it.
They really wind you down after a hard day.
Specially AFTER kids in bed. and you and missus can relax in there with nothing on.
They actually improve your sex life. so go for it..

Couldn't agree more, gotta be able to see the stars
Old C band dish as spa cover. Used to use a vinyl cover in the early days but found it didn't let the water 'breathe' and ended up smelling the chemicals too much
