it's a bios password or a hdd password.....

you will need a master code to unlock either one. a dell sevice center can provide these, as long as it is not stolen.....

do some googling, help should be available on tech forums....

Default RE: Dell Inspirion 6000 Password Authentication System

    Hi,

My name is Todd and I'm with Dell's online outreach program at our corporate headquarters in Round Rock, Texas. I saw your post and wanted to respond. Did you purchase that system yourself or from someone else? If you contact our support groups via phone or online chat they can help you to remove that password but only if you can fully prove ownership of the system. For obvious reasons we can't help remove those passwords unless we're 100% sure we're helping the correct owner of the system.

If you purchased the system second hand you can have the original owner transfer the system to you. Here is a link to the online ownership transfer form that you can have them fill out for you.

That link is for the US to US transfer and there is an international version as well. If you have any other questions let me know and I'll see if I can help you further.

newer laptops have the password in a EEPROM or stored in a CPU so pulling the battery out wont do anything.

Be careful what you do with that model Dell laptop.

I heard that they explode really violently in the battery department.

    Isn't that right Todd@Dell ?
