is component/RCA working or is it doing the same?
Also is there another TV with HDMI available to try as my old Pyrod brand LED TV wont accept HDMI, wrong format apparently so I get what looks like a really very bad Horizontal hold tear.
The TV has one of those DIV sockets and I know it works ok with a Video camera.

I have a HDMI cable on mine and it works fine

Might be an incompatibility issue or a faulty outlet on either

Test the HDMI cable with another box (Blu Ray or what ever you have to eliminate the cable and the TV as the problem)

Mine works fine on HDMI on a Sony LCD. The drop out symptom I did experience once but it was just poor seating of the HDMI cable in the DSD4121 satellite receiver. YMMV.

I have an LG TV and after 6 months that happened to me, though not with vast but another stb box. Warranty job on the tv, they came out and replaced the inputs and was all good.

I have a awa cheap lcd or plasma tv and hdmi does not work..
yet on the new panasonic plasma full hd tvs I have the hdmi works perfectly on the same decoder.
I put it down to full hd and hd...probably wrong but just an assumption.

Mine doesn't work with HDMI version 1.4. Earlier versions are fine.

It may be a good idea when selling VAST stb's for self install to advise customers if the HDMI doesnt work to check the other outputs first in case there is an incompatability bewteen their TV and the stb.
If they already have another HDMI devise on the TV, would that indicate their system is the current format?

No different to other sources... I setup a mates Foxtel via hdmi on a soniq tv and the hdmi was crap jumping all the time.. turned out it needed a software upgrade on the tv which took them 6 weeks to send out via a usb stick.

Just because one combination of source and screen works OK, doesn't mean every source will work well with that screen.

eg: A Blu-Ray player may work fine on a particular screen, but a VAST box may not, but that same VAST box may work fine on another screen and that same Blu-Ray player may not.

There's really no way of knowing for certain until you try the combination.

I often find component to be more compatible between a wide-variety of equipment than HDMI and often with better PQ too

I thought HDMI was just an updated continuation of RCA to Super VHS to Composite and it was a matter of simply just 'Plug and Play' but obviously not.

HDMI is fully-digital, including vision, audio and control signals with the convenience of a single cable.

All other video formats, including component, are analogue.

You could try to get client to check TV's optimal Screen resolution, in TV's manual.
Then set the Vast set top box output to same.
Obviously if he can't get a picture with the HDMI he will have to temporarily hook up to TV using analogue or component.
Setting is in: Menu/Advanced Options/HD Output Format/ OK to change use arrows then OK / Then Highlight accept changes/OK & see if that makes a difference.
Not sure what the VAST default is on install, but best to set it to the TV's screen resolution capability. 1080i, 720p etc.
    Cheers, Tiny

UEC box default output is 576i (eg: for older CRT TV's)

Users need to change output settings for higher resolution.

Just to save all the other beginners some time, setting is in:

    Menu/Advanced Options/TV Installation/HD Output Format/

    It worked!

Yep, bugger missed the TV Installation bit thanks for correcting me, glad it all worked out for you. 1080 resolution makes a big difference.
