    Default Beyonwiz

    Looking at a:
    Beyonwiz DP-21
    Site

Anybody have a look at one of these babies?
$1200 to $1500 price tag, but they are packed with a lot of goodies and with online firmware updates for future mods etc , it looks like it has a promising future.
    Any thoughts or comments.

    Cheers

Best damn thing I ever bought, price should now be between $1000-$1200 have a look at the many posts at for more in depth detail

GUI and remote are a bit clunky but you get used to it, I think the newer ones come with a 250GB HDD (mine's a 200GB), network port is a bonus for streaming video to the BW (can't do it the other way ATM) but firmware is improving all the time with the odd hiccup here and there, inbuilt DVD player is a bonus, doesn't do x.264 stuff ATM but should be able to do so in the future, twin hi-def tuners can record two channels

Like most other NMP on the market there's some shortcomings but I reckon they're outweighed by the positive, it just depends on what you want from a unit like this one.

I am told that the images for them are finally starting to come good.

Still some menus not quite right but a bit like the dreambox...all looking up.

    Absolutely overpriced to buggery though.

They're not "images" as such but firmware. The BW team in Korea have a reputation for listening to users, and there's a good population of beta testers here in Oz.

Yes I agree that they are a premium price, but the build quality is second to none, and as it replaced a DVD player, STB and network media player in my house I think the investment was worth it. It will even stream .ts files from the DreamBox

One of the best buys I've made in the last 18 months. It finally brought some harmony to my lounge room and the missus. Everyone's shows are taped and it is really easy to use. I have mine running with my logitech harmony remote which simplified everything.
I also subscribe to the icetv program guide which makes recording programs in advance a breeze.
