Default Challenger + 4 Door Controller Issue

    Good Afternoon All,

I have a Tecom Challenger V8 with 4 Door controller installed in a building. I am having issues with the system reading from the users database.

Whenever a user swipes it comes up as invalid user. I have triple checked the site code (no offset), user is definitely active in the dbase and has correct door group etc assigned.

    Any ideas?

What is the exact error in the event log... is it invalid user or something else?

If so then check what type the Door Controller is in the DGP database - if not door controller then no users are passed from the challenger to the 4DC...

If Access denied void door = door group issue - i.e. door group not in challenger - older versions of TITAN had issues downloading the door groups...

The door controller is listed in the dbase. (I am using Titan software FYI).

Our regional tech was able to sort the issue out by shorting both panels.

Check the user through the RAS, see if the door group is correct.

With 4 door controllers you need to default them in order for them to pull down the DB from the challenger. Especially if it is a new install.

    1. Have card users ever worked or just stopped working ?

    2. Just a simple one, always check on a 4DC board that the "card swipe" jumper pin isn't on, that will mess with the panels card reads etc.

Just for the sake of recording my experience...

    Had the same issue...same symptoms
Ultimately found prox card user number and tecom user number mismatch.

Something that is often overlooked and quite simple questions but...

what user numbers are you using? have you recently gone above 50 users? have you done a 1meg memory chip upgrade or are you still using standard memory?

Are you checking Titan DB or actually at the RAS programming? as I'm sure you're well aware Titan will let you program user 51 as an active user but at the RAS you cant.

One of my techs sat on a problem like this for nearly a week going through all these complicated possibilities but when I attended site to see what was taking so long the problem was sorted by a quick memory upgrade!

Just as intelliGEORGE has stated, I STRONGLY recommend this for all new PCBs. Sometimes tested products are not defaulted correctly before they are packed and shipped.

Most of the time you probably won't need to do this but if it saves time on unnecessary fault finding...
