    Default Remote Desktop

Hi guys my mate owns a video shop and I set up remote desktop for his server
for his business software and It works a treat
But the question is for his security camera computer will remote desktop work on this??
Or is there another way of doing this?
I haven't checked out the recording software would it have something built
    into it?

Sorry for the nob questions just trying to get a heads up before I go down
    there to tackle this project

    cheers

depends on the security software. Some security software disables remote desktop. Most are fine.

You could try PC Anywhere. I use this on all my sites work great.

A lot have their own remote software, but we used VNC for some others. A good DVR will have remote software available, let us know what brand it is and maybe I can source out the right software.

    Cheers

I personally prefer VNC, it's free and works with most platforms. If running a Linux server I recommend NX which is great for remote controlling Linux machines, and having offline sessions that you can easily reconnect to. Best of all both products are free for personal use.

I also use and recommend VNC for the same reasons bartender does.

Yes cctv_down_under I read that on this site also and just tried it on our 10 pc's, flawless and fast

manicretep posted something about it which got me intrigued, I mucked around for days with remote desktop and vnc, man logmein rocks!

No port forward messy stuff (hard if you dont know how) I was also told portforwarddotcom is good...No trouble with firewalls either, one of our clients sites is behind a linux firewall box thingy and it worked great, going to use it all the time, thanks manicretep and cctv_down_under...

Yes I have mentioned it previously not just on this forum, I recommend using this as there's no need for port forwarding, static IP's, opening up ports and possibly rendering the pc or network insecure -primarily if your not aware of what the repercussions are of "fiddling" then its not worth touching...

I have it installed on EVERY dvr that is connected to the net and I periodically login and see their status and can do remote maintenance without having to go onsite, I can also change settings (motion and masking etc), I can also view all the cameras via the pro version, I can also remotely access footage and files then transfer to my pc, I installed a couple of 16 channel jobs ages ago and after I designed my custom GUI I remotely installed over the net to the dvr's and then rebooted them and walah all at my leisure can in hand .....

I like the can in hand Idea...but more a cab sav kinda guy LOL.....but it is good, especially being free and all, but my concern is when they start to charge, thats alota port forwarding i gotta do...200 sites in 1.5 years....ouch.

The DVR's we use have what is known as an ESM, this lets all the DVR's connect to us to send vital sign's IE constant ping and DVR health, as soon as a HDD fails, we know about it...fortunately our DVr's support raid so no data gets lost but its nice to tell the customer "excuse me but someone put a sign up in front of the camera" or "Your HDD just expired..would you liek another?"

The can in hand is the only way to go, stuff living to work, you got to work to live

Yah I spoke to geo about vitals awhile ago and also Linux support as I dont want to have to use Viruses, Infections Spyware Trojans and Adware ........

They still wont sell direct to me? dont want to burn a ltech).. sadly ordered a 1480 card a week ago, still no word...their stock levels suck.

The only time you have to pay for logmein is when you want remote support, ie support centre can control the whole pc, transfer files etc etc, I only paid for the sub because I wtd to enable file transfer from my office pc to home and vice versa, stead of emailing etc I just go to file manager and click on it and its here...
