    Default New Bundled Telstra Deal

Got a phone call tonight from Telstra tonight saying they want my business back.... gave him the cold shoulder treatment, then it started to get interesting. Supposdely this is a one off offer to old Telstra clients. The deal is

    $109 a month u get

ADSL 2+ 20M/1M, 25 gig downloads, throttled after that, no installation, router chucked in for nothing
Free STD and local calls, as many as u want
Calls to telstra mobile 5c per minute
$180 credit to get me back and a few other carrots.
    24month broadband contract

Seems like a fair deal? Wot u think? Already paying around $100 for 512k adsl 12gig and phone, so it is very competetive.

Said I may never go back to Telstra, may just give them another go......

Why not get Voip ? You already have ADSL.

My phone costs broken down :

    Telstra Homeline Budget $19.95
Engin National $14.95 ( Unlimited and Untimed Local and National calls ) or $9.95 for 10 cents unlimited and untimed to local and national.

I would be getting voip and taking up an ADSL2 offer with someone else , 24 months is a long time.

    Just my opinion though.

Thanks 4 yr opinion. If I went voip what is the initial costs, ie voip handset etc. Obviously u pay line rental also, just doing the maths.....
    $30 line rental
    $15 Voip
    $20 Homeline

$65 Total .... that leaves me $44 for adsl, dont think I could get adsl 2+, 25 gig for $44 bucks to be the same price as the Telstra deal. Am I missing something, I agree the 24mth contract is a stinker though.

    Cheers

    $19.95 Telstra Homeline Budget
$14.95 Engin National Plan ( Free Local and National calls )
    = $35 odd dollars.

If you want to go cheap , a voice box on 12 months contract is $49.95.

So once you have paid Engin the $49.95 for the voice box , you would be paying out $35 a month. $75 a month should get you enough ADSL2 for your needs I would think.

I also looked at Telstra's recent offers and actually had a thread about them before the forum went boom. At the end of it all , I still couldnt find enough reason to go back to them for anything. Especially since voip is now such a cheap and stable product.

$19.95 Telstra Homeline Budget <=== thats it Navy Blue.
    Fine print on Telstras Website....

    Things you need to know

    1. HomeLine Budget customers agree not to acquire services from other carriage service providers by dialling their access override code and must not acquire a broadband service from another service provider which is provided using line sharing technology.

SO the 19.95 Telstra Homeline Budget plan incudes the line rental ? And the other telstra phone plans also?

Re the fine print above, Im sure plenty of people get the basic telstra phone plan and go elsewhere 4 their adsl. Do they enforce this at all ?

    Cheers

Thats is the the line rental , $19.95.

But now I remember what arseholes Telstra are , they wont give you homeline budget if you have ADSL2. You have to go to the next cheapest one.....check Telstras website for it. You can only get 19.95 line rental if you have ADSL1.

That makes sense now, will crunch the figures, maybe it is not as rosy as it seems. Do you use a softphone or another phone. Do u just need an ATA adapter (is it called that) if u want u use yr existing phone? Any other limitations on voip? Calling mobiles, or emergency services I thought was an issue.

Any standard phone plugs in to the ATA. The ATA just plugs in to a port on your router/modem. Setup is very easy , I set one up for an 85 year old gentleman 2 weeks ago.

There are no issues with calling anyone that I am aware of. All of my outgoing calls are via Engin and have been for over a year.

Telstra rang me a while ago and claimed they could offer me cheaper calls than what I am getting. When I told them I was with Engin and what price I pay they hung up on me They can be rather rude when they cant compete.

My deal is with Virgin as follows $60 per month for phone and broadband, no line rental fee. It's not voip but your phone unless I understood them wrong is using the optus 3 network. I live on the edge of the area that optus sends it signal to and could only 2bars signal and a GPRS(for internet) signal in the house and 3 bars in the car port(its a wireless signal) ss I when to the net and bought a 2.1 gig 11db antenna from city tech with a 5 meter lead, cost was with a 6' j pipe was about$170. Well now the signal is 3 bars to 4 bars and my broadband is UMTS(512 speed) or faster with 2gig for a month, up it to 4 and your bill goes up to $70 a month($30 phone & $40 internet). All phone calls to land lines(in Australia) are in the $30 a month charge for the phone. no more line rental. Lets see $170 by $29 = just under 6 months the lack of line rental the ant. will be paid back.
It's about time some body gave us a better deal.
