    Default wheels interchange

    Hi all,

Are Ford Falcon wheels interchangeable with a holden commodore.?

I have a falcon and want to buy a couple of spare tyres/including rims for a long journey.

    thanks

Falcon and Commodore rims are NOT interchangable...

    Falcon 114.3 x 5 offset +36

    Commodore 120 x 5 offset +40 (I think)

Falcon (AU onwards) are interchangeable with Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, maybe more

Commodore are interchangable with BMW..maybe more..

    Why 114.3 you ask....??

Well that's 4.5 inches ofcourse.....dunno why all the jap cars adopted it though

and 120 is 4.75 inches..that what Chev liked to use...

The bigger the PCD the bigger the peni......

You know the old Chev/Ford argument.

Having said that the larger the PCD the more side load strength and less flex in theory.

The smaller PCD's were adapted by the Japs because smaller hubs discs and drums could be used im guessing.

I was noting the other night that performance Jap versions had either 5 studs instead of 4 or larger PCDs

There may be (and dont quote me on this) a later version of the Subaru STi that had the larger stud spacing.

Whatever you end up buying, make sure you test one as the rims can hit the brake caliper and the hub holes can be the wrong size too.

Also pay attention to the hub hole, rims should be a tight fit around the hub and not loose as all road shocks should be pushed through the hub and not the wheel studs.

When testing, test both front and back as the calipers and shockers are in different locations and can get in the way, what fits on the front may not fit on the back due to wheel offset.

This is one area I cannot see why a 14 inch 4/5 stud rim wont all other 14 inch 4/5 stud rims.
They cant say its for 'safety' because that infers your 'CanHardly' is using substanded non ASS rims compared to my 'AzizifitwillGo' mobile because the stud pattern is 1/8 diameter bigger.
Bolts are the same, Nuts are the same, threads are the same but not the spacings, bloody ridiculous.
I once fitted 3 totatly different branded Disc calipers to an old Valiant once. I found a wreck where each side front caliper was a different brand to the other but they all fitted not only to a Valiant, but to a Ford as well, only the Hubs were different so if everything on the wishbones was the same, why the different bolt pattern on the rims ?
Even less excuse today as we import everything now so why not a standed Rim pattern?
I have no problem in making the pattern different based in the wheel diameter to stop idiots either going up or down in rim size for the vehicle their fitted to.
