    Default Firefox tweaks

I know there used to be a thread which had some very handy tweaks for Firefox in it. I did a search and I couldnt see it, so here are some of those tweaks plus a few that I use myself to speed up my Firefox.

To access these settings type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return.

    Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
    Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 15. This means it will make 15 requests at once.

right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer

    Key Name: nglayout.initialpaint.delay
    Key Value: 0
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Set "network.dns.disableIPv6" to "true". Only do this if you do not use IPv6 on your network, which most people wont be using.

Firefox downloads webpages from links it thinks you may click. This may make the "experience" seem faster but really it just bogs down Firefox and you PC.
Set "network.prefetch-next" to "false" to turn this off

    ---

right click anywhere and select New -> Integer.
    Use these values when prompted:

    Key Name: content.switch.threshold
    Key Value: 1000000

The default value is 750000, or 3/4 of a second. The more time that you tell Firefox to wait before resuming high priority mode, the more responsive the application will feel… but it will obviously take a little longer to load the pages. You could reverse this if you were more worried about speeding up page load time.

Note that this setting only works if you haven't changed content.interrupt.parsing to false.

    ---

Turn off chrome tool tips, this causes little pop up windows to tell you what your mouse is hovering over. If you been using Firefox for as long or longer than I have (before 1.0) you really don't need to be told what the back button does. It also hinders dragging a bookmark into the bookmark toolbar folder, the tool tip gets in the way and prevents the drop from working.
    Set "browser.chrome.toolbar_tip" to "false"

    ----

Note: You need to close all firefox windows and reopen for the changes to take effect.

Please post any other handy tweaks you may have found useful.
