Default Step by Step card programming required!!

Ok. I have read the many posts regarding cloning or copying a gold card. I have a working card that I want to clone but cant seem to get it to work. I have a Jaycar programmer and have followed the following steps.

1: get a blank gold card
    2: program it with
    a:GFGold v2.2.6 Dual No Updating Coco.hex
    b:GFGold v226 eeprom.hex

3: get a coppy of ggedit
4: put the working gold card in
    5: select read
    6: select save
7: dont close it and now put in the one you just made
    8: select read
9: select load and load the file you just saved
    10: select write

    The questions I have are:
In step 2 are you programming the "a" into the pic or eeprom? and what postion does the switch on the programmer need to be in for "a" & "b"?

In step 10 are you programming the pic or eeprom and what postion does the switch need to be in?

    Thanks in advance

a:GFGold v2.2.6 Dual No Updating Coco.hex - Loaded after eeprom has been written, switch out.

b:GFGold v226 eeprom.hex - First after bootloader has been written it will ask you to load the eeprom file...this is it, switch in.

    Step 10 = switch in

Thanks for your reply Satguru. Just so I understand it correctly let me just make sure I understand.

Do program the blank card I:
do step "a" first with switch out
Then do step "b" with switch in
Then what do I do with the saved file from the original card??

    Thanks in advance

    No,
Do the smartcard wizard in ICprog, this will guide you through it.

It automatically loads bootloader to Pic (switch out). Then asks for eeprom file, you browse your computer for it, then program it (switch in). It will then ask for the PIC to overwrite the bootloader file, browse for it then load it to the card (switch out again).

Your gold card should be working.

    So in easy words:
    Smartcard Wizard - ICprog
    1. Bootloader (automatically loaded - switch out)
    2. Eeprom - GFGold v226 eeprom.hex
    3. PIC - GFGold v2.2.6 Dual No Updating Coco.hex
    4. Go get your saved GGEdit file, then write it to the card with Ggedit (switch in).

Thanks Satgurui for the information. The funny thing is that the ICprog doesnt seem to read data from the card. It keeps coming up with 3F in all the data positions. If I use GGedit it will read from the card. Dont know whats happenning. Also you can obviously write to the card more than once cant you???
    Thanks

I have just done a few gold cards and found the best way if you have a working card is,
    1. Using Icprog with switch out read working card.
    2. Put in blank card and write what you just read.
    3. Using Gedit or Lmedit with switch in read working card and save file.
    4. Put in the new card load saved file then write to card.

Card should be now working if not erase your blank card first.
This works every time for me.

Couldn’t agree with you more it is fun a sense of frustration and achievement.
But shouldn’t be sold, that’s not fun at all

The problem with whiteys is, they may give you pictures but learning to load bin files teaches you nothing except patience.

For those of us who are here to understand how things work, rather than to save or make money, the only educative value of gamma was its source code. That's understandable, I'm not complaining. But those interested in satellite technology will learn far, far more from studying and playing with gold, silver, emerald and fun. There's almost nothing about them, DVB and Irdeto 1 that can't be understood now if you want to learn. On the other hand, for the time being at least, whitey remains a magic cauldron over which incantations are recited. Sure the incantations have grammar, and it's fun when it works, but it's no more educational than a game of .

    Couldn't agree more.

Doing my first goldie was like a great adventure of screwups and discovery. Loading my first gam/bin file was like "Is that it?" even though the end result was pictures in both cases.

It just seemed like a 6 year old trained monkey could have done the latter. Oh wait, he did....his name was Crash.

Well I like using the old original sub cards that I have. Working out how to put details on them and getting them working. It has been fun but I’m not interested in Gamma cards tho. I believe in paying for a sub and if you can work out how to add channels to it good luck to you but that is not selling is it?

Firstly, let me caveat this by saying I know this is an old thread, however it never hurts to have more info on this type of stuff. Secondly, I didn't write the following instructions, they are something I've saved during my own trials and tribulations. I even left the personal banter at the start in order to maintain integrity! I hope someone can find it relevant, I know it's what got me my first Goldie. (Obviously this is for a silver, substitute all silver references with gold)

BTW - I'm using version 1.05D of ICprog with windows XP driver installed and enabled.

I sorry that this is a bit long winded, but! here we go.
Firstly when I built the Jaycar programmer last friday night I had decided at the time to use a 9v power pack as the power supply, however this arfternoon I changed the power supply to the 5v USB cable and I did this via the construction diagram that came with the kit from Jaycar, whether this has corrected my problem or not I'm not sure, I believe it has by dropping from a 9v power supply to 5v supply.

This is procedure I stuck to, to get my working silver cards.

My jaycar is a stand alone unit, no cover, just sits on 4 rubber, so here we go,

    bootloader
Select PIC mode (switch out) select your PIC type 16f877, select your bootloader BUT DON"T HIT PROGRAM ALL JUST YET!!, make sure oscillator is set to XT - code protect off - all fuses on r/h side of ICprog unchecked no ticks to appear in those boxes, now the really important part, your jaycar board (if its a stand alone like mine) has two jumper switches JP1 located directly behind the smartcard slot & JP2 located next to the crystals change JP2 from 6.00MHz to 3.59MHz & then hit program all - your device should program and then verify successfully.

    Emerald hex
Selct switch normal mode (switch in) select your device, in this case its now the Eeprom which should be 24c64, select your emerald.hex, leave JP2 set to 3.5MHz, then hit program all, your device should program then verify successfully.

    Ghost_SI.hex
Select PIC mode (switch out) selct your ghost si_hex BUT DON"T HIT PROGRAM ALL YET, set oscillator to xt, code protect off, leave all fuses unchecked on the right hand side or none selected, and still leave JP2 set as 3.59MHz, now hit program all, your device should program and verify successfully - well mine has anyway

NOw, change the JP2 back to 6.00MHz open LMedit an should ow be able to write your details back to your card.

    I hope this helps dude....cheers
