Need advice on outdoor cameras and recorder
Hi,
I'm looking for advice on setting up a couple or more cameras outside my house for security purposes. I am a novice and don't know much about it. I would like day/night vision and obviously weatherproof. Can anyone recommend any cameras and DVR and whatever else I need to get it going please? My house has been broken into and have had several other intrusions in the front/back yard. Please help!
Thanks.

i would recommend you get someone out to give you a free quote. Then if you dont like the price report back and you should get some good advice
What $ do you expect to spend. 2 to 3 Grand or less ?
Is it just a house in the suburbs or a 5 acre property etc.
Cameras wont stop your house getting broken into. They will only show you how your security was breached. You need to look at the whole problem, not just throw isolated bits of technology at it.
Layout
Doors
Locks
Fencelines
Window protection
Intruder detection (e.g. alarms, a dog, neighbours, natural surveillance)
Cameras etc.
You could spend twenty grand on a sexy camera system. But if you only have a twenty dollar lock...
However the correct type of cameras and recording devices installed & setup by competent persons (aka decent trained and suitably accreditedv Security Techs) can provide enough digital evidence to satisfy most insurance companies who may, in turn, cough up with the required $$$ to replace any "inappropriately and/or illegally acquired" items of value and, on the odd occasion, may even result in the apprehension and subsequent detention those responsible, occasionally even before Ca$h Converters has gained any form of lien to your property.

I would advise getting a licensed security installer to give your house a once over.
Deterring a would be criminal is important. Most criminals are opportunists. If there is a week or two before you make up your mind what you want you could get hit again. Get some signs up and screw up a siren box in a overt but secure position.
Get a quote for a couple of cameras/DVR just to start with.
Pay attention to physical security.
Get an alarm. Even a 2nd hand one with a few detectors.
