I haven't seen any tangible benefit from anything this government has done."A carbon price will add another $300 per household on top of that, so for a six-year period you're seeing an effective doubling of electricity prices per household with no tangible benefit," Mr McIndoe said.
Quite sad really, when you hear of the elderly and less fortunate going to bed early to save on electricity. If they are doing this now, what will happen in 6 years time when power prices double.
Just think, if power prices double, it will affect everything we buy, do and visit.
5c KW/hr where can I sign up for that?
Is this Double what we're paying now as it has already near doubled over the last 6 years which would make it Quadruple, wouldnt it??
Based on the comments that no monies have been saved/spent/planned for future needs, repairs and replacements, where the Hell has the monies paid over the years gone?

Hi Sanity, Wouldn't this have maybe been better put in general chat. A lot of people here might miss it.
Mick
That's fair enough I just didn't see it and took it more as a General news item. No worries Sanity.
Cheers
Mick
Now heres another interesting piece
Interesting that state power is more expensive than Victoria's private power ? Hell, I thought ours was pricey in Vic
My immediate reaction to this information was a scare mongering tactic - as wanting to scare peoples into beleiving this worst case scenario!
At the end of the day power producing companies are one of the worst emitters of greenhouse gases, putting strategies / incentives / penalties in place will force these companies to put some serious coin into R&D to be socially and sustainably more efficient!
Leave the status quo (which I am sure they are hoping, with no emission trading scheme) and might as well kiss goodbye to any chance of any reform that benefits the community as a whole in this sector.

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to bury the concept of the electric car. It never lived much past the fetal stage, killed by lack of demand since no one could afford to charge it...

I live near the 2 major generators (Mt Piper and Wallerawang) and been on both Open day tours and a TAFE tour and seen how they clean the gasses from the boilers to the point that it is almost only hot air going up the chimney.
What does grab the idiot clean air brigade is the STEAM comming off the mushroom shapped heat exchangers.
Inside these 'Towers' are huge panels that have steam passing through as the cooling water is sprayed over, exactly the same as many motorist's have done when they have had a boiling radiator and seen the steam caused as the cool water hits the hot radiator metal.
I also cannot understand how they can claim these Gas Fired generators as so clean as you are Burning a Fuel and all fires burn off the Oxygen and whats left is CARBON.
The wind doesnt blow everyday nor the sun shine24hours so the ONLY other option for us as we dont have the water for Hydro schemes nor natural Thermal activity is to go NUCLEAR !!!!
You want all your electrical gadjets and the comforts they bring so GET REAL and get out there to make Nuclear safer to use.

I must admit I was pro nuclear, until fukushima. Unlike Chernobyl, the Japanese incident was no one's fault. Australia is not so prone to earthquakes, but we have our disasters. There's always the risk of a terror attacks or mistakes. There's got to be a better way.
My reliance on grid power is dropping. In 6 years time I will be using barely any.
