What model mate, lots of later model sanyos suffer from crt shorts.....
Hi guys i have a Sanyo tv for repair
The EHT lead that goes to the Tube was all bunt and pitted at the end
so I stuck a new one on and turned it on LOL
You know how if you turn your head on just the right angle
you can see the heaters glowing a nice little red amber
well inside mine I am having a plasma sought of glow filling the whole
of the tube neck up I suppose it looks like the northern lights/Aurora Borealis
Have any of you guys seen this as this doesn't look like your typical
shorted tube?
cheers

Cant be fixed mate , it either has air in it or a short , if it was a short it cant be repaired with a rejuvenator so both ways it is history.
Ok just noticed the tube is leaking around the EHT lead maybe it leaking all
the way to the tube base circuit board, I will have to go and get some sillicon
and glue it up to see if that stops the
leaking and in turn stops the pretty lights

I agree with Joey, I reckon the EHT has arched through the tube neck and now the tube is Gassy .Not worth fixing!
DASH
Waste of good silicon i reckon, B4L.
LOL But it was going to be a nice little earner

Maybe in the old days when it was worth chucking reco tube in. Now thats going back a few years. I was young then
Reminds me of one of the old Macgyver episodes where he made a bomb out of an old tube and some other bits and pieces. Could be a good one for the Mythbusters, I always like seeing a big bang on their show.
What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?

Its not a myth! It happened to me once with a 68cm black and white tube where the TV was dropped face down to the concrete. The explosion was amazing. Well, first imploded then exploded as the vacuum sucked in all the glass and then threw back everything outwards at high velocity. Lucky i didn't get any cut or injury. Just had the ringing ears for couple of days and lots of glass dust to clean from the workshop.
I guess back in the day (B/W days) they didn't make them as safe as the latter colour tubes.
Yes, exploding TV tubes are quite something. In my very early days (still at school in the early 80s) we had an electronics club and someone donated an old B/W TV. We soon had it gutted, and ended up with this ugly big tube sitting on the floor taking up space. It wouldn't fit in any of the school rubbish bins so we decided that we needed to make it smaller.
I had learnt somewhere that they explode if you hit them, so I thought a controlled explosion might be the go.
After standing at a distance and throwing a large jemmy bar at it, only to have it bounce off, we had all but given up.
Then one of the guys decided that a large rock was the solution. One was duly obtained and thrown in the general direction.
The bang was deafening, not to mention the shards of glass embedded in everything within a 10 metre radius - including our clothing. We all had our backs to it when it went off fortunately!
[At that stage of my life I hadn't learnt how to neck a tube]
Strangely enough I was thinking just yesterday about how strong the modern colour tubes are in comparison to these plasma panels.
One small knock or a kid throwing a marble at it and a plasma is toast. At least if you dropped a CRT set, there was a reasonable chance of it surviving.
B4L - your tube is gassy, the EHT is too high or it's got an internal short. Seen it before on various sets.

I throw out hundreds of tubes , most I sit on top of the green wheelie bin and tap the neck with a hammer , there is never anything special.
But when I have had a lot to throw out I get a Skip and throw them on top of each other to make more space , Some of these 38" . Just recently I threw in a 26" tube that went off like a bomb , more of it ended up outside the bin !!
As most know if you throw a brick at these things you are more likely to get hit by the brick bouncing back than getting hit by glass
