Default Wii software mods on new un modded Wii

My wife and I bought a Wii 2 years ago, hardly use it, then my wife brother buys one and asks to borrow our games.

Not keen on the idea cause his kids will have access to them. So now I want to know what steps do I take to mod his Wii so he can play it with copies instead.

Started reading up on the homebrew channel and some loaders, but all the tech-o talk and mumbo jumbo doesn't get answered to well. I can't tell what to do first, like Home Brew mod first or not..

Anyone got the time to explain what you do first with a fresh unmodded Wii. Do the units serial number mean much with these software mods, or date of manufacture.

I see the Wii can also play games of the usb hdd, this is something I think I want done to ours.

I soft modded our one a fair while ago and forgot how I done most of it and there is probably a easier way of doing it now.

there are a lot of tutorials out there, heres a good forum to start at

I have installed on ours and a 80GB laptop HDD connected to the Wii and have all the games on that,
Its good becasue if you put a game dvd in the DVD drive you can copy it straight to the HDD.

Do you need to install the home brew chanel for it to work, or was it just that loader and thats it ?.

I fix a few wii's and these are the steps that I go through
    all info is here -
because I do a few - I have 3 SD cards, 1 has the Indiana Pwns, 1 has the Homebrew Channel and 1 has the info to mod, nice n easy for me

    upgrade to 4.3E
play Lego Indiana Jones original adventures to the first save point
delete the save point - and replace it with the indiana pwns Euro
replace the SD card with the Homebrew data
open Lego Indiana Jones and go to the starwars looking dude with in the court yard and choose the little black dudes (those that have been there will know)
    watch it install homebrew
    exit back to home
install the modpack data on the SD card and open homebrew
open wad manager and install all wads (a good idea is to download usbloader wad and place this in the mod pack too)
install preloader and turn off disk updates & net updates

download WFBS and install on a Windows PC and format your hard drive and if you have any iso's install them with WFBS or bung it in the wii - open USB Loader and install the games that way

have a good read - don't interrupt the process, especially during the priloader stage.......instant brick

    goodluck

There seems to me several different ways to go about it. I only ever played the Wii once so I am not sure of much about it. I won't jump in to it untill I get better understanding what all the jargon is about like WADS and MODPACKS. At the moment it's like learning a new language.

I feel more comfortable with a mod chip and a soldering iron then I do trying to come to grips with all the terms used.

I used the wiihacks guide that doesnt require a game disc, just load a few files on a sd card and follow the pronpts pretty much, games on usb hdd is excellent for young kids- no more scratched discs.

It all depends on the Wii's firmware, anything 4.2e or under is easy
The new Black Wii's come with 4.3e, in that case you need one of six different original games and the hacked save game file
Also 4.3e Wii's have a different Dvd Drive (D3-2) that wont play Dvd-r's, so 4.3's are only good for USB Hdd loading

Any one of these games will work, all the hacked game saves are in the 4.3mod.zip

    Super Smash Brothers Brawl
    Yu-Gi-OH 5D's Wheelie Breakers
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
    LEGO Batman
    LEGO Star Wars
    Lego Indiana Jones

    Follow the guide here,

    All the files are here

It is very very easy now as all the files are now Batched Installed

For USB Loaders go for USB Loader-GX , i prefered CoverFloader but they gave up on it so no updates

Yes the Homebrew Channel is one of the first things you'll need. Without that you can't install anything else

You really need to know what firmware version your Wii has

Go to the Wii system menu and at the top-right corner it will say your Wii's firmware version.
