Interesting that the 'technician' that installed my trial NBNCo satellite internet system used a spec an to find D1, but needed his lappy and a long ethernet cable to the modem to fine tune and get a pass on the convoluted Optus automated alignment procedure.
No measurements were recorded from the spec an.
I could have done as good an alignment job with a $10 meter.
Hi Kynsat
A very cheap, extremely effective way to aim for VAST in treed areas is to use the iPhone app DP AR PRO ( around $25). You dial up C1, hold the phone up looking at the sky in a northerly direction and you see the satellite on a bright red arc. The camera then gives you a real time view of any objects in the way. Works brilliantly and is used by heaps of motorhomers doing new set ups every day. Does NOT need the internet to work. On windy days you can even see if moving branches will be a problem.

But I presume this does need to be in a mobile phone coverage area tho.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
Hi. Have been using and an in line satellite finder beeper. When locking on to C1, it seems to be the only one that is still 'singing' when turned down to minimum. Setting the skew to your area's
suggested number of degrees before starting, is paramount. Final bit is getting someone to shout out the 'quality' value on the TV as you fiddle the final setting of the dish and the skew. Last couple of jobs have taken around 10minutes to fix C1.
I salivate about MTV's meter and know that he is correct, but probably like many other terrestrial installers who now need to think of the odd satellite install, the price of the meter would take a hell of a lot of jobs to recover. I have had to purchase a new DT meter (the old one packed up) so that is c$2500. Should have said 'Yes, I did charity work' on the Census form.
On a lighter note. Chap from the West Coast moved his dish and box to here and pointed the dish back to the West Coast. Wondered why it didn't work!!
Is there an upgraded version of this app now. I have an iphone 4S

If that meter will only do DVB-S it's no good for VAST which is DVB-S2.
Looking at the specs that meter is only DVB-S MPEG2 and VAST is DVB-S2 MPEG4.
You could use it to align on a C1/D3 DVB-S transponder... just make sure it's vertical polarisation for the closest match for VAST signals.
