Default SlingBox - Anyone using ? Whats it like

    Greetings
I am looking at a Slingbox Pro and have been reading a fair bit.
No I dont expect HD over the net .. just SD in my house and mobile iphone quality on the go...

One issue I cant come to grips with is all reviews say you need a PC with such and such a spec..
From what I have read I need the PC to set-up the slingbox, but I cant see that you need the PC on for the slingbox to stream etc.
Am I missing something, do you need the pc up and running for the slingbox to actually work or just for set-up.
Any other information on what they are like would be appreciated.
    regards

EDIT : or is the stated PC requirements on the receiving end - that makes more sense

ps : can multiple people view the stream without additional hardware ?
pps : any one know if the inbuilt TV tuner is digital or analog ?

One of the bigger users of these and other devices, is on the other forum, blackcrusader is his tag there.
Perhaps he could give you some info if you don't get success here on austech..

Have a look at the Volkano. This is a competitor to slingbox.
It basically takes an AV feed and streams it over the net. I have one for streaming AV on the Ipad as well as a PC.

On the viewing side you just need the client. Only one client can be connected at any one time...
Picture quality on the lan is excellent. Over the net is network dependant but pretty good.

btw.. I have a spare unit still sealed that I might pop into the buy and sell...

    Regards

Pretty sure blackcrusader or IE2 is into the Hava's now. Or like jumpstart mentioned, the Volkano.
Which model have you got jumpstart and how much are you looking for?

I'll let you see my Nat Geo HD, if you let me see your Fox Sport HD1 ?? yeah?

It could be a bit of a problem for the tier marketing model used by the providers if CS was to fall over

Nothing has fallen over for me as I am using Foxtel boxes and always have.

Your issue always wil be how much upload bandwidth. I have a 10mb commercial upload in Australia so can easily run 4 Vulkanos running on 4 separate Foxtel boxes. The Vulkanos can all run around 2mb each no issues at all.

This means I can have Fox Sports HD 1 2 3 and Fox Footy all running live or flick to Sky Racing or any other channels if thats what I need.
