Red face Wii.....Thick as a brick

I am looking at a wii here, version 3.3E

On menu there is homebrew channel with many sub menu's..namely...

    DVD ISO Loader
    DVDx Installer
    Lot's of emulators..Gameboy,Gamecube,Nes,Sega Genesis,SNES,GBA,Wii64
    Gecko OS 1.07b
    Games..Port of Chess,Duckhunt,Jewelquest,Pong,RPS,Snake,Tetris,Sh ooting Gallery,Battleships
    SaveGame for Wii
    Gecko Region Free
    scummvm
    SD Explorer
    USB Wii
    Avi Video Player
    WAD Manager
    Wii Physics
    /apps/cIOS36/boot.dol
    /apps/Wii Backup Loader

It has a 1gb sd card in the slot.

Am I correct in assuming it is soft modded ready to go?
If I was to back my games up to a formatted FAT32 usb drive with ISO's would it be ready to rock n roll?

New territory for me, hence the questions sorry...TOTAL NEWBIE

    Thanks anyone..

but if it was me I'd do it to a newer firmware so more games will work.

One thing I didn't check was that if it was hard modded but I don't know how to check

Take your time while upgrading as you don't want a Wii Brick

Thanks hughdman...I didn't ask you as you have already done me well in the deal to get it from you !

Understand the need to go slow...actually crawling, and hesitant, however there is no race ...The "other half" will mainly be using it with the wii fit and board, but boys always like to play a bit too don't they?

    Thanks hugh...

    Whilst asking questions..

Can anyone confirm that these work?

I have all the guitars and drums for a PS2, and this converter says it will let the guitars work on the wii?

    Do they?

    Hello
    I followed the guides here.

Take your time and upgrade it if you need later games to play.
Good luck and take your time.

USB loader GX works well with usb hdd, you will most likely need to update some of the cios's for newer games such as Metroid other M to work so as above i 'd also recomend updating the softmod . Gecko os might mean it has been chipped ?

    Thanks all...boy am I confused.
Wife put wii fit plus in the drive, and it says it needs to upgrade the firmware.

I hopped on the net and googled my way around a number of forums.
Some say don't upgrade as likely to brick it, some say just upgrade some ios.

Now honestly, I don't have a clue and am getting more n more confused.

Having the mod on it now, and not keen on changing that, what would be my best options to get the game to play, and how is it best recommended to undertake the task.

I'm quite prepared to search and download files, and try find tutorials to match / fix my problem, it's just a matter of getting some guidance on where to go to read / download, and get going from them.

Whilst here again, can anyone tell me about the question I posed in post 5, as today in Bigw they have Wii Beatles and Wii Rock Band games for $10 each, which seems a bargain, if they work on the gizzmo above.

Sorry for the q's, but I did admit to being thick as a brick on a wii !!...lol

    Hello Viewer
If you goto the web page I posted earlier and join up which is free.(must join to see all links etc).
Follow the guide to update your wii to suit the firmware your wii is currently on.
During the guide make sure you back up you NAND as recommend (this allows you to restore if necessary).
Don't skip any steps as all the latest cios files home brew etc are included in tutorial which are needed to play latest games.
    Cheers

This is what I am downloading, as well as all the files, and repair files if required.
Have also made a full Word copy of the instructions.

Still got 35 mins of files in queue...

Is this the correct gear blade?

Thanks also to jor..I'll try to run with this one first.

    THANKS ALL

Spoton just do each step as stated and all will be good.
    Definitely use usbloader gx.
I have a wd 1gb hdd with my games on it with usbloader gx you put your disc in the wii drive and it will back up the disk to the hdd for you.
    Cheers

    Hi,
I like to finish off my topics, and let everyone know the end result.

I ended up going with this tutorial ( as recommended...thanks) and all went well. I found the steps fairly straight forward to follow for a newbie. I can recommend it to others. It was the ModMii tutorial.

    Thanks everyone for your support.

    To answer my own question....

My little gizmo turned up the other day and I just tried it. Both the wired and wireless Guitar Hero guitars that come with Guitar Hero work fine with this PS2 to Wii adapter. The Rock Band wireless tries, but bombs out on my early test..perhaps something to do with the usb input on the wii, but I already have the other usb input in use with a wbfs hard drive. Hope this helps someone. For $5, it's a way of saving some dosh if you have ps2 guitars, and a wii.
