    Default AMD or Intel

Ok I'm looking at building a new computer and just wanted some opinions on whether to go for an AMD or intel setup.

EDIT also put a poll up just to see what happens.

I got burned on an AMD chip ($$+shitty)..... never again. Intel Inside.

I always use intel CPU's, never had one problem with them.

I have always used intel, haven't used amd for awhile but remember them being quite noisy for some reason.

I voted Intel, on a business level we used both for a while (specialised application).
Intel more stable and reliable in these units which are up 24x7, and we are talking multiple hundreds of units.
    No AMD processors purchased anymore.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy...

The only AMD I have left is a laptop, it gets that hot it would burn a hole in your lap.

    Intel for me.

AMD use both but the quad core amd is on par with intel and better value for money.

I've got a mate that has a older am2 6000 and it hasn't been turned off in approx 2 years and seems to run cool.

This has got me stuffed which one to go for, but just from the responses I might go intel.

    Intel for me.

Some hardware and software I use either will not run, or runs badly on AMD.
Intel is specified with some applications I have.
Don't know why, I initially thought it was a marketing stitchup, but tested it on AMD and no go.

Thanks everyone who has posted so far. Going by the poll and by what people have written I think i'll go for an Intel.

Now all I have to do is decide which one, and before anyone suggests no I can't afford to buy a i7.

Last AMD i used was a 3800x2, wasn't that great in terms of the competition.

Ive been on intel for the last few processors ive used.

    Thanks for the info.

I think i'll hold off buying parts for a week or so so I can see what happens with my poll and also what various people think.

I would give you a thanks but my thanks button has vanished at them moment, looks like i've been thanking too much lately and you have a limit for each day which is fair enough.

I used AMD for my last 2 PCs, no probs very happy.

Infact I got a bonus, I bought an X2 550 Black edition and unlocked it to an X4 B50 - nice!

Noisy chip ?? Not a real lot of moving parts in those little silicone wafers ?? Maybe it was just the fan you were hearing ?? And maybe it wasn't even the cpu fan ?? It could have been a case fan, or a graphics card fan, or a hard drive ??
When I was a kid, I used to have an imaginary friend. I thought he went everywhere with me. I could talk to him and he could hear me, and he could grant me wishes and stuff too. But then I grew up, and stopped going to church.

I voted AMD. Been using them since my first computer I bought in 1995 - a 486DX4-100 (I still have the mobo and cpu of that around somewhere!).

AMD give good value for money, and to echo the comments of another poster further up, I don't use computers for gaming, mainly for audio and video editing and general work.
In these capacities, the AMD CPUs provide excellent results for a reasonable price.

Besides, I'm always a champion of the under-dog.
