Windows XP SP3 - Known Issues:
Please Review the release notes for the latest known issues:
Seems Microsoft's servers are getting a proper flogging with SP3 downloads.
Interesting that it installs on systems without Microsoft Genuine Advantage loaded.
doesnt seem to
just did install with intergrated sp3 cd, updates installed wga.
no prob for me.
can get wga fix anyway.
https://www.facebook.com/philquad68
Nope. It doesn't require WGA and it's not installed with SP3.
In any case you can and most probably fix your key 'problem' by following Hoe's 'advice' .
Guys i just installed SP3 last night, suprisingly only needed 66mb as i keep it up to date often. What iam asking is, i havent noticed any major changes, should there be?
No nothing really. In the full product release with sp 3 included it now installs without asking for a product key in line with Vista and 2008.
I've been running it for a few weeks at work and it works just the same as it did before on sp2.
From Microsoft.
Windows XP users can now download Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) via Windows Update or the Microsoft Download Center. Windows XP SP3 includes all previously released updates for the operating system, in addition to a small number of new updates.
Ahh i see. Well at least they are still continuing with XP as iam not ready for Vista just yet. Has been giving me a bit of trouble on my work PC.
Used autopatcher and patched my Windows XP Pro Corp disk it installs fine
Adobe.
Downloaded SP3.
Used the instructions (that were available on Austech pre the big crash) and integrated(slipstreamed) XP-SP3 into XP Pro, then used Nero and made a Bootable CD.
Just used the CD and installed XP to a PC and SP3 is installed.
Install was flawless and PC(pentium3) is running fine.
is the sweetest tool to slipstream Sp's and burn a bootable disc in one very simple session.
You may even decide to lighten it a tad.
SP3 nightmare ... dragged out the old Soltek 1.4ghz for a project ... hasn't been used since last year. Of course on boot it was thirsty for a chipload of updates including SP3. Half way through SP3 install it threw up it's hands and installed no more. Clicked ok to undo changes but no, it tells me that Windows has been modified and may not work properly promptly followed by BSOD.
Restarted I tried the update again ... same result but without BSOD. No problem I checked Add/remove and there it was so I clicked remove. Nah cant find the files to remove....... The story this far, SP3 won't install .. windows thinks it is installed .... but it won't uninstall. Anyone know my next move ... apart from start from scratch.
read my sig

Ok Phil I read your sig. Did it as prescribed and have the slipstreamed folder but cant burn the bootable with my version (OEM) of Nero 7. I'll fix that later.
But back to the SP3 thing. I have always believed my old MOBO to carry an AMD 1600 chip and this is the one that wont accept SP3 no matter how it is delivered, update, download to folder and run, USB, or CD. Always reports corrupt SP3 file or BSODs during the unpack process. Have used SP3 file from two different sources, no change. On boot the chip is reported as unknown as it is in system info but the "small tool" reports it as Intel. Confused? As soon as I get get Nero sorted (upgraded) I will terminate the thing with extreme prejudice and start over again with the slipstream disc .. just have to put my project on hold.
No I don't have a thing for old technology it's just that the subject computer has a WinRadio card installed in it's only ISA slot and my project involves monitoring and recording certain transmissions (for aircheck purposes).
