    Default Optus Mytab at DSE

Finally, tracked one of the Optus mytab's that Dick Smith was running out for $99!!!

First impressions, not bad, very much entry level but for the price it is worth chucking in the work bag, won't matter if it gets a little knocked about a bit.

The touch screen is a little different to my iPad, a bit "harder" on the touch, so to speak, but I am sure I will get used to it. The 7" screen is fine, 800x480 res is also ok, I do prefer a full 800x600 or more but it will do.

Apps appear to be wide and varied, like the iPad, many to choose from, free and paid. The android "market" store is as easy to navigate as the apple store so no complaints there.

It comes with a 2G micro SD card and a 3G prepaid SIM card. Has wifi and a webcam.

All in all, for the $99 spent, I can not complain.

However, it took me a few days to track one down as these were a run out of discontinued stock. I found mine at bayside dse in frankston.

If you interested, call around, get one held in your name, ask for an interstore transfer, be quick!!!

    How to unlock from OPTUS

Note device will work with any Optus reseller sim without unlocking eg. TPG Amasim Virgin Exetel ect. Phone will work straight away but for internet you will need to set the APN to the new provider.

    or

    Use the ZTE Blade option
whack in your IMEI it instantly gives your your code.
Pop another sim in , asks for code , enter code and unlocked

I used the nextgenserver one and no problems

they come out with 2.1 but on optus's webpage you can update to 2.2

I find it to be a bit laggy

The screen touch response isn't the greatest, however I'm used to the iphone.

For the money you can'y complain, well I can I paid $149 a month ago.

    Restistive.

I also have an ipad and do find the ipads keyboard easier to "touch" but am getting used to the Mytab's need to tap a little harder.

ok i also have a flytouch2 with a resistive screen and have found if you use a stylus it makes it so much better.

Also keep an eye out at XDA for custom roms etc, that unit is a ZTE from memory which version i have no clue

noticed my local DSE has replaced the signage they had for the Optus tab with the Telstra version at the same $99, not sure how the Telstra version compares though, don't really recall seeing any great reviews on it, anyone familiar with it?

Tried to get another one for my son but all sold out everywhere.
Was looking at the Telstra offer and it seems to come with 5 Gig instead of Optus' 3 Gig, not sure what time limit though.
I asked the DSE guy if the Telstra tabs could easily be unlocked and he replied yes but Telstra uses different frequencies for 3G so no use in trying with Optus.

the t-touch they have is the S7 a huweai, it is pretty crap compared to the optus one, if it was the S7 slim it would be heaps better than the optus one the slim has a 1ghz processor, capacitive touch etc

This is really a fantastic little device. I uses it's "navman" option on the way home in the car, nice to have a 7" screen with the ability to swap between map view and satellite view giving the plan view of the landscape around where you are. Couldn't find a speedo or other travel data though. Has an annoying computer voice but I am sure there is an app for that ha ha.

I reckon best $99 I have spent in a long time.

I have read that it is only a matter of time before VLC is available for the android platform as a stand alone media player, couple that to a 32gb micro SD card and you have a multi media player you can take anywhere!

Hope you people manage to track one down.
