What Revision of Lite-on is it?
Are you using JF?
I'm trying to dump the key from my 360's Lite-on DG-16D2S 74850C drive.
I made the simple transistor-based RS232 RxTx thingy located , and I know it works because when I join the Rx and Tx outputs (loopback test), I can see what I type in Hyperterm. (I use a 4.5v battery array to power it instead of the drive's 3.3v power)
Then I followed the instructions . I got as far as getting into DVDkey32, and it sees the liteon drive connected to my mobo's SATA. I have the drive powered through the 360, and i removed pin 3 from the power cable.
I power on the xbox, the drive ejects. I disconnect the drive's power cable, shove the drive back in half way, then reconnect the drive's power cable. The drive stays half-ejected. Now, my soldering skills weren't good enough to bridge the tiny r707, so i just scraped away at it until i could see the copper hole. I connected my Tx input from my RS232 to r707 and clicked "get key" in DVDkey32, but all I get is this:
Why isn't it working? I even tried bridging r707 manually by soldering to the much bigger Tx pad seen and connecting that to both my Tx probe AND r707, and even THAT didn't work! Any ideas?Sending DVDKey request to I/O port 0xF400 and COM1
................ Serial Data is bad,
DVDkey files extraction aborted!
Summary of what i tried:
- RS232 Tx probe tested, works
- Liteon drive is in half-open position
- Liteon drive detected by DVDkey32 just fine
- Tx probe connected to R707 and TxD on drive
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I have made a huge mess of scattered xbox parts everywhere, and I would love to get this done so I can clean this up.

JF = Jungle Flasher.
Basically you are using really really old information about 2 years old
Post People Extract Keys these days using a
Have a look at this guide;

Oh yeah i'm using jungle flasher. Ok i'll look at that guide, thanks
Ah well the idea was that I would be able to extract the key without having to buy anything, since I already had all the parts for the RS232 converter.
You can DIY a PMT probe.
Yeah I tried linking in my first post, but the forum wouldn't let me link to any other websites because it thought it was spam. I'll try again:
I build this RS232 converter:
And I followed this guide:
U can always do a full dump with the MRA method when everything else fails.
I'm worried that the reason it failed was because I farked up my drive trying to solder all those points, especially the many times i tried to bridge r707. Now I tested most of the points I soldered with a multimeter to make sure I didn't accidentally short them to any adjacent points, and I don't think I did, but maybe I fried a nearby part by heating it up too much?
Or is there some other reason why this failed? Did i miss an important step, or do I have to do this in some particular order?
Is there any way to see exactly what serial data DVDkey32 is getting? I know its getting something, because if i don't probe r707, the program just freezes. I don't get the 'serial data is bad' message unless the Tx probe is actually touching r707.
And what is the MRA method? I did find , but it doesn't have any instructions on how to dump the drive, only how to solder it.

i wouldnt suggest MRA if you cant even extract the key this way mate

Can confirm the serial(RS232) method no longer works(on 7 series Liteon) if on the new f/w(ie the flashed f/w from the latest XBL update). So maybe your not doing anything. You have a few options(as mentioned above):
1.PMT
2.MRA
3.(Only if you have the key from previous flash/dump): Use ofw f/w then spoof the key over.

Thanks for the info! I thought it would be a good idea to update the 360 on XBL before I tried to flash it, I didn't realise that the update was a drive firmware update though. Damn.
EDIT: So I found , but it is very vague as to whether or not you need a CK3. I'm trying to do this without buying anything, and at first it says you can use the 360 as a power source, but then it goes on about connecting it to your CK3 in one of the steps.
