because your cheap meter does not do 8PSK or otherwise known as DVB-S2
Hi... OK i have a satlink meter which i have found C1 sat and scanned it.. Can get but 90 or so AUSTAR channels.. But im after VAST.. My meter can scan the transponder for VAST on 12567 at 30000 which is what my sat box is set too... I have 84% signal but no quality.. Not sure where to go from here...?
ALTEC UEC DSD4121.. REGISTERED... LNB 10700...????

As Beer4life has intimated, you can scan the Universe but unless you have a VAST stb, 'you aint gunna get nuttin, baby', well maybe not those words but all you need to get is the C1 Tune channel and go from there.
If you have a DVB-S2 stb I think you could find VAST but its heavily encrypted and no one has managed to use other than a VAST stb with its included mated card.
Look through the recent postings on 'Meters for Vast' as this was covered as to why unless you have a FSM with DVB-S2 capabilty, you cannot 'see' the signals.
In those posting you will see that unless your an installer of a bit financialy flushed, a meter depending on its abilities starts in the high HUNDRED's of $$$ to several 1000's of $$$$$, not for everyones purse unfortunately.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
If you have found C1, ditch the meter and plug the receiver in and do a scan. If the vast channels come up, it is the meter as suggested.
There is no trick to receiving them, Vast channels scan in if you do a scan on all transponders.
I have a VAST ALTEC UEC DSD4121 decoder all setup.. Im on C1 for sure.. It has the card it came with and has been registered.. Ive scanned the satellite.. Has no signal on the screen... ?????
LNB is set to 10700... As far as i know the UEC DSD4121 is preset and should be ready to go... I have double checked every setting doing a factory reset.. but still no signal...???
Vast altec uec dsd4121
Check the skew on the LNB, and then if no luck try another 10700 LNB
Cheers

If you're only getting 90 or so Austar channels you've not aligned your dish correctly and as a result not receiving the Vertical transponders that VAST uses. As suggested above, I would try adjusting the LNB skew by rotating it in the holder.
On your sat meter use the details for 12407V 30000 2/3 (this is the Aurora info channel) to align your dish.

What polarity is your box set to.
..V..
Can your meter find Aurora on 12407 30000 v 2/3 ??
This will check if your skew is ok
The LNB Skew must be in the "right" quadrant,
i.e. on a "normal" STB it will scan in Austar or other channels even if you have the LNB in the wrong Quadrant.....
If your LNB is in the wrong quadrant Vertical channels may appear as Horizontal & vice verse
but the UEC Vast STB will only scan in channels, if it is being received in the correct polarity
I don't know if this is yor problem or not ?
what size & type dish do you have ? & what is the position of the cable out of the LNB ? (is it a foxtel or Austar installed dish ?)
Edit: Can you use an Austar/Foxtel STB or an Aurora STB to connect to the dish....just to confirm you are on Optus C1/D3 ?
