Default Bigpond ADSL Confused and sceptical

    Hi Guys
We have been trying to get ADSL for around 12 months. We keep trying the quizes on ADSL providers and have rung Telstra direct only to be repeatedly told that our phone lines won't take ADSL.
It got to the point that we thought we would go wireless though I hated the idea of paying big bucks for little Gigs. Anyway we dropped into Fone Zone to ask about the wireless and she suggested that we try for another application for ADSL. The Liberty package. We were told that we would get a phone call during the week to let us know.
Today the router and accessories turned up in the mail. What I'm concerned about is that we were told in regards to the wireless, if we install the disc but it doesn't work ie due to poor reception we would still have to pay for it.
I can only assume that since they have sent the goods then they must have switched us on at the exchange.
Is it safe to assume this?

    Cheers

Im struggling to figure out what you are asking.

I assume you have an ADSL enabled exchange ? Yes/No
By reffering to wireless are you describing the supplied wireless router modem supplied by Telstra ?????

Normally they check your exchange prior to shipping self install pack.

Are you assuming that ADSL is not available in your area ?

Yes we did get the wireless router/modem and yes we are near a local exchange but in a rural area. We were gobsmacked getting the modem in the mail as we had been refused so many times to get access as ADSL was apparently not available

Sorry for the confusing post.Being a complete computer newbie .it turns out we were switched on, on the 8th. But we never received any confirmation .My cabling skills were lacking but we are up and running now thanks

Well done ! Trust you enjoying your new ADSL connection.

You will receive an application form from Telstra soon ( Govvy Subsidy for 1/2 price first year) simply fill it out and foward it back in the self addressed envelope.

FYI Telstra was signing up rural customers for ADSL prior to the exchanges becoming available. The telemarketers have no IDEA where people live. They usually employ British schoolies on holidays here.

What speed do u have ?

well you are talking about two different system here, Wireless adsl is different from the normal Adsl which needs to have your exchange to be compatable for Adsl, But the wireless system may not need to rely on your Exchange but a diff location.??

I sent Telstra an email query the other day in regards to how much it would cost to break a contract with them on ADSL if I moved to them.

They told me that unfortunately ADSL is not available to me , which was quite surprising as I have had it for 18 months at this address.

At work Telstra sent out the ADSL modem, then emailed the next day saying ADSL wasn't available.

PS we use fibre, the ADSL was meant to be a back up to remotely control gear etc.
