    Unhappy Plasma TV Gone Crazy

    Hi All,

I own a 42" Teac Plasma TV (PLMSDM1060) that has just recently decided to act up.....I know little about electronics so am hoping someone could shed some light on my little problem to see what I will be up for.

As I said recently it has started to play up, firstly the screen would flicker white when first switched on but after running a while it would come good and all would be ok, now when I turn on the TV I get a pink screen which turns to grey and you can faintly see the picture whatever its in the background as shadows, no colour though.
I notice that when the pink screen is up for the few seconds, it reminds me of when a speaker is too close to your TV and you get that colour distortion happening, except this is just pink with white distortion at top and bottom of screen.

There is no damage to the screen that is visible without opening it up but then I have no idea what to look for....can any one out there help me in any way with this......... look forward to a reply!!!!

Sounds like it's the main caps in the power supply. TEAC always use crappy caps, However I wouldn't be turning it on to often until it's repaired as if one of the caps lets go it may cause major problems to any microprocessor on the main PCB

    Adobe.

This is only my opinion please consult with others before attempting to repair unit.

LOL MMM sounds just like one i did just a while back and it was a easy fix
iwacelect pointed me in the right direction with this one
It ended up to be dry joints
Take the back of and you will see a board at the top in the middle
and you will see a board at the bottom in the middle
there is a cable joining the 2 boards the connectors get very bad dry joints
take the connectors of and solder it directly to the circuit boards
    A real easy fix

There is a known issue with the x y sustain boards in the plasma, that is evident with sparkles appearing.

This is a long long thread

but it talks of the issue ( mine was replaced under warranty), however, it does not describe what you are seeing, but could be related, as they also changed out the power supply in most at the same time.

Worth a read anyhow..but get a feed and a drink ready...

Hey, wierdo, when you've seen the prob it really easy, he's just trying to describe which cable, and your dead right best for it makes for some great effects while it's sparking away.

@viewer, adjustable y-sus voltages, adjust setup and setdown voltages until least sparkles works for a while anyway

If I remember right i think it was a 4 or 5 pin connector if that helps
    You will find it

SOrry best Ive looked all over those 2 boards and I cant see any connectors that join them. There is a 4-5 pin connector that joins where you say board b is to the one directly on its right. Im sorry guys I understand how frustrating it is to explain this all to someone who has no idea what your talking about, unfortunately Im lost.
I appreciate all your help but I think this is way out of my league....

Spoke to a technician from Teac bout 30 mins ago and he reckons one of the boards have gone but wont go into too much detail without seeing it.......If I send it to them to get fixed I may as well buy a new one and cant afford it lol

Have taken pics of what I understand from your diagram as Board A, Board B and Board A to B. Hope these pics help

I do remember pulling that thing apart but i can't remember if I had to
Iam sure the A/V pannel comes right of in one piece
Go on pull that board out and the metal shield and see whats under that
Worth a try or wait till one of the other boys comes back on line

    cheers

We have pulled that cover and the board off and had a look, frankly I dont know what the hell Im looking at, there doesnt appear to be any damage or noticeable things that would be causing problems but who am I to say.

troy what you are looking for is dry/cracked solder joints on a power cable that has 4-5 pins and fairly thick wire, check the top pcb (where B4L small white box is) on the left handside of that pcb there's the 4-5 pin connection, disconnect the wires and take out pcb, check underneath eg on solder side for cracks around the connection pins, now follow that wire to it's destination, remove that pcb and check for cracked/dry joints around those connection pins...

let us know how you go!

Thanks iwacelect, I will take a look when I pick it up....have had some tele repair company take a look and they are saying the CONTROL board has failed ($695 to repair), I rang teac to confirm the price and they say there isnt a control board, only an IMAGE & a LOGIC board, the logic board I think they said was $400 + GST, the image one they cant give me a price for but they say is alot more than $400.

Ill have a look when I get it back.....if there are any other suggestions or anybody knows someone in Perth I can trust to look at it for me please help!!!
